DOHA: An average of 1,870 vehicles, seeking renewal of road permits are being inspected daily at the Qatar Technical Inspection Company (QTIC) and about 40 percent of them fail in the initial tests, says a senior QTIC official. A good number of vehicles manufactured in the 1970s and 1980s are still running on the roads after successfully completing the inspection, said QTIC’s assistant managing director Ikram Hamdad.
The new traffic law has proposed to disqualify vehicles which are more than 15 years old, but it has not been implemented yet by the authorities.
“The failure rate of vehicles is about 40 percent and it remains more or less unchanged for many years. However, we have seen a gradual improvement in the condition of the vehicles undergoing the inspection,” said Ikram. Besides, its main inspection centre in the Industrial Area, QTIC runs three mobile stations in Al Khor, Wakra and in the premises of the Lulu Hypermarket.
and yet the failed 40% failures simply drive away and continue to use the raods with gay abandon!
when they fail you for "illegal" window film (despite police approval) scratches on the bumper etc etc and seemingly ignore bald tires defective lights..........
i am sure it is not what you know but who you know in a lot of cases.
I don't know about Qatar, but in Saudi, there was a great scam..
There were lots of workshops near the testing station. You could "rent" reasonable tyres from them. Drive to the testing station. Pass the test and then return the tyres. All above board.
