I am going for my BA in social work and would like to move to Qatar, but i was wondering is this field active there. like in hospitals, schools or other areas.

what an arrogant statement....

no this is not the states...its a different culture -

dont be concerned about the culture here...

so you have to know the intricacies of the society to be a sucessful social worker.

thanks for the Info, that was my concern that the culture is not as open there as in the states.

If you're a newly-minted social worker, without much work experience, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a SW job here. If you're licensed as a therapist (or have other credentials), you can create work for yourself as a freelancer -- doing marriage/couples therapy, family home studies for international adoptions, etc.

Most schools employ proper school counselors, and the culture here is such that they're still not much for airing unsavory private issues (sexual abuse, sexual orientation issues, substance abuse, eating disorders etc.). That said, there IS a need in the community for professionals who can support individuals with these problems...so I would say get some training in a few areas like the ones mentioned above, and see what you do.

hi munaa, in the state medical corporation here in Doha, called Hamad Medical Corporation, they only employ Qataris for this post.

I dont know where else would there be a requirement for Social workers.

Good luck and happy new year!

I see you are a teacher. You may be more successful in your job hunting in that area. There are more teachers in Doha than social workers.
