I need to fix my protable HD, its not reading all the files i have on it, i perforemed a chkdisk on it on XP and Vista but it hangs all the time, even tryed other software like recovery but didn't work, i hav some important files there and need them back.

My HD Works just fine most of times but there are some files that are corrupted and i need them, i thought i may fix the bad sectors but it just hungs after scanning reatches the bad sectors...
When you try to fix it by recovery software, what's the report said? As long as the software can identify your HD. You can try by another program and I have some experience on it ;-)
I agree with Dann. It sounds like the hard disk has failed. I've been able to recover some data from failed hard disks in the past but there are no guarantees. There are firms that can recover data from failed hard drives, but the costs are usually prohibitively expensive (starts at around $6000 USD and up).
In the future, I would highly recommend that you keep a backup copy of important information on a second hard drive.

That is the symptom of HD Crash. You need to send it to any computer outlets to save your file to new HD but the crashed HD cant be repaired. Cheers
