is this normal when applying for job?
assalaamu alaykum / peace be upon those who follow righteous guidance / hi,
i thought i had lost my chance of a dream job in doha as not got back to me for a while and i was planning on just going to qatar for a month and looking for work whilst there.
but then just on the off chance i've contacted the sheikh who recommended me for the job and he said it still hasnt been decided, and this is over a month since the interview.
is this normal for jobs in qatar?
i spoke to my dad who used to run an oil related business and he said this is just normal for the middle east, they do things on their time and you just got to get used to it as they are the ones with the cheque books.
on the plus side i'm still there on a short list of three for the job, on the negative side all this waiting is driving me crazy!

Absolutely normal..a lot of the delay is linked to the number of approvals needed prior to any offers being firmed up..also there is always the issue of Qatarisation in which, some companies, has to acquire Ministry of Interior clearance to hire expats for positions which are deemed too specialised to put to the local market..then there is of course the cultural aspect in which things get done at one's own leisure!
We interviewed a guy in Aug in England for our company in Qatar and still have not offered him a position...the offer letter is on my desk but there is a hiring freeze on at the minute.
but then i think that it was pretty similar in England. I was interviewed (a few years ago) by a multinational there in Oct and was offered a job just before new year.
normal..after i was interviewed, it took another 2 months before I finally get the offer letter..everything was initially all done thru verbal communications and assurances that they are "processing the application".
that seems all very crazy but strangely reassuring!
When I was first interviewed for a job in Qatar, it took the company so long to get back to me that I thought that they had decided not to take me! Some of the other applicants who were offered a job had already gone off and got jobs elsewhere.

Don't get angry with me! I'm only typing what you are thinking!
I guess I'm the exception that proves the rule then!
I was interviewed and told I had the job straight away. I worked 1 month notice at the previous job and here I am :o)
I guess it depends on the nationality/mentality of who is interviewing and who is in the HR dept.
Did you Google it first?
I got selected after interview at one place but they said it will 3 months. Fortunately after one month I got another job and I never joined the first one. It is like this.
Peace.
As the others have said this is very normal in Qatar. I would suggest you continue to look in case you are not selected but don't be surprised if you get a call in a few months that they want to offer you a position.
