Emergency visit to Hamad Hospital
I drove a friend with acute leg pain today to Hamad Hospital and accompanied her on her journey through the system.
First, I was a complete idiot, thinking that the big silver buildings that said "Hamad Medical City" was really the hospital. A kindly security guard set us on the right path and we made our way over to Rumaillah. After having verbally threatened two people in the anarchy that was labeled "public parking" I found the (no sign) parking garage and took the last spot on the roof. Whew, that only took about 45 minutes! We then attempted to find urgent care/emergency services. Three very nice Qatari ladies whose job it wasn't to find my friend's health card number and medical records were very helpful in spite of my lousy Arabic (yes, their English is much better than my Arabic, but I do try!)and pointed us in the right direction with the correct numbers.
But once we arrived in the Emergency Department all went amazingly well. My friend was immediately triaged by a very competent RN who sent us promptly into the exam room. I really liked the resident MD who examined my friend. She was thorough and conversant, even though my friend's English and Arabic is very minimal. She took her time but we were out of there in about a half an hour with a diagnosis of a tendon sprain(alhamdulillah, I had thought it might be a DVT) and a compression bandage and anti-inflammatory meds.
I have worked in the health care field for many years in the US and I was favorably impressed by Hamad's urgent care services.
BTW, for other idiots like me out there, the Emergency Services unit is located directly across from Lulu Center.

Just to balance this statement, the Outpatients experience at the Womens Hospital almost made me jump on a plane. Not for the fainthearted!
I worked in ED for years in the UK. The best thing about the Hamad is NO DRUNKS! Honestly, in the UK, weekend nights are pretty much filled with drunken people who have been fighting.
I too was impressed by the care I received here and the overall cleanliness and professionalism of the staff. 5* in my opinion!
I guess I am old fashioned and keep thinking the emergency room is for emergencies, not sniffles, temps of 99 or stomach aches. I wouldn't even worry about parking on the lawn if it were an "emergency". Because it is inexpensive the hospitals are abused here just as they are in all countries where treatment cannot be refused. I don't particularly care for the out patient treatment I received but I thought the "emergency" room was excellent.

yea you're right. it was very nice trip thou, but wish the temperature was a bid higher than it was today.
any way, maybe any time soon on the upcoming ql gathering.

hey i had a very very great experience with hamad hospital.
i mean , i realy can not understand that there are people who are still complaining about this great helth care system. where in the world can you get such health care for
almost free? i never had to wait for even, 5 min.went there one time , cause my baby had an urgent emergency case and we got a doctor in less than no time.btw. we went at the wrong Department we should have gone to the children's emergency, but we were so confuse that we went to the wrong Department and yet they treated my baby right away. they could have send us to to the childrend's emergency but they were so professional and took us in right away. maybe i was one of the lucky ones.
i also visited couple of private doctors and i was very disapointed because they were very unprofessional.

my friend i give you a very important advice .if you have any problem just call 999 they will send you an ambulance with 2 staff inside the driver is emt nurse and theseconde is pararamedic 1 nurse anesthesia resissutation specialiste mean between very safe hand but don,t call them for headache they will be angry hhhhh

Its a case to case situations...Some are lucky and some are not to be treated nice in any place.

I have been to the emergency once for myself and with a friend of mine.. I would say , excellent service and very committed staff.
And was shocked that all those goes for free.. Great, I would say. Had it been in any other country , It would have costed me a fortune..

I have been to Hamad Emergency only once (and that was enough) sent there by a GP for DVT treatment. In the three hours that I was there I saw about 7 different Dr's about 3 different diagnoses - one ultrasound and discharged, but this was quick I was told - but we were given urgent U/Sound due to knowing someone in the right places. SO overall it was not too bad an experience but something I wish not to repeat in a hurry
I have been to Hamad Hospital twice for emergency. Both times it was at night. And I was impressed with the treatment I received. The nurses and doctors were very respectuful and professional. And I didn't pay a single cent. I will advice everyone in Qatar, if you are faced with medical emergency, go straight to Hamad, don't waste your time with the private hospitals.
Ive been there once and i had a good experience there, much better experiences than the private hospitals.

.well, when i was in the emergency at hamad, i was shocked to know that, that big institution has only one doctor in ER.....

.i have to state that there like 50 patients, some are shaking, waiting for that doctor.....

You have definitely got one thing right, no where in the world can you see a docotor and get antiinflammaotry as well as a compression bandage for QR 2.
Well, after working for hamad hospital for 4 years now, apparently u seem to have had one of the best experiences recorded....

The Hamad has JCI status...thats an acheivement in itself....don't doubt them at all!
looks like you / ur freind are one of the lucky few who didnt have to wait for 2hrs to be seen by the triage doctor. yeppy.
