This is a list of emirs of Qatar: The emirs of Qatar are members of the Al-Thani dynasty and the state of Qatar was founded in 1868 by Muhammad bin Thani as a kingdom. The house of Al-Thani descend from Banu Tamim and are typical Arabic polygamous house.

Shaikh Muhammad bin Thani Ruler of Qatar (1868-1878) (first ruler)

Shaikh Jasim bin Muhammad Al-Thani ruler of Qatar (1876-1913)

Sheikh 'Abdu'llah bin Qasim Al-Thani (technically a "hakim" or "ruler") (1913-1949)

Sheikh 'Ali bin 'Abdu'llah Al-Thani (1949-1960). ruler of Qatar.

Sheikh Ahmad ibn `Ali Al Thani (1960-1972)

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani (1972-1995)

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (1995-present)
