Moving from Canada

Hi All,

I'm in the process of relocating from Toronto, Canada to Qatar and am trying to zero in on an appropriate shipping company.

Appreciate advice from folks who are in the know about this or those who have moved from Canada.

Cheers.

It depends what are you looking for! People leaving Canada because they have a better opportunity in Katar and it's hot :D It is freezing here! In canada finding a job is not easy, it depends what are you looking for of course! But it is not easy and if you don't speak french don't go to quebec! But the advantage here is that poor and not poor people live almost in the same conditions! the lowest wages can afford you to live normally and the high wages mines taxes are not much higher than the low ones! But you will never get rich here if that's what you are looking for :D

If you have more questions don't hesitate!

Thanks for all the responses and sharing your experiences, folks. Much appreciated.

I'll try calling some of these companies and post my experience soon.

Britexpat,

Can't say you were spot on about the snow removal part but can't deny that completely either. Its one of the minor factors but far from being the primary ones (which were being close to family and having an opportunity to work for a company that's making huge strides in putting Qatar on the world map in a big way)

I've spent considerable time in Qatar (schooling and working) before moving to US & Canada about 12 years back. Lots of good memories during my time in Qatar....I'm pretty confident I can fit right back in.

Cheers.

I shipped a container to west africa at the beginning of oct and it still hasn't arrived. Damn it!

I am always excited to go to sleep! In anticipation of the new experience I will find awaiting me.

Lets hope your "shit" isn't going to pass by somalia waters. It may be held ransom and worse yet you won't be able to get it back period. Even if you pay the ransom.

so make sure you ask the shipping company if they have to go by somalia waters.

I am always excited to go to sleep! In anticipation of the new experience I will find awaiting me.

Hi Lone Ranger. We shipped our belongings last year from the U.S. with a company called International Shipping Link in Toronto. Their phone is 416-463-5900. They were the least expensive we found and they did an excellent job. Nothing was damaged and our container arrived when they said it would. I agree it is best to compare a few companies. Best of luck with your move. Check out their website

your best bet is to have 3 moving companies come to your place to quote you and explain their services. that's what we did (Toronto to Egypt). there will be similarities, and each with have a few differences.

in our first move, and then the one from Egypt to Qatar, things were damaged. nothing too major, but in both cases the insurance claim process was fairly painless.

my advice is don't necessarily go for the cheapest, unless they also seem to offer the best service, and make sure you put in replacement values in the insurance forms because if something important is damaged you will need to replace it in Qatar.

Perhaps Loneranger thinks that he/she is leaving hell...

Remember winter is setting in, sidewalks have to be cleared of snow and snow chains put on cars..

The most beautiful sound I ever heard:

Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .

All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word . .

Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .

Maria!

I've just met a girl named Maria,

And suddenly that name

Will never be the same

To me.

Maria!

Hi, I am just wondering, you know, almost all of the filipino expats here in Qatar thinking that Canada will give us a greener pastures or better oppurtunities than any other countries, but how or why is it that you are in the process of relocating here.

And just this year also, I attended a seminar on how to migrate to Canada and Im in the process also of relocating there? Please give me some advise,

Thanks
