How long for my work visa for a European citizen?

just wondered what other people's experience was with the timelines for having their visas issued. My job offer was finalized a few weeks ago and my employer has indicated that the process can be long and erratic...
what's the longest I could be waiting? I am moving from Canada so I would like to get the ball rolling!

Thanks for your responses. I got the visa today so it only took 2 weeks for me...wow!

Hi, just received my work visa yesterday and it took about 4 weeks. I, too, am Canadian and coming to Qatar with my son in January. If all your paperwork is in order, I think it runs relatively smoothly. I sorted everything out from Germany (where I now live) but will be working for a Canadian company as of Jan.

My husband company, a local company, took 6 weeks. Seems to depend on whether a local company HR involved or not... if local they are notorious for sitting on any work. Most international companies have their own facilitators and do their own so lot quicker.

It is really down to your future employer.

My experience has been pretty simple with no hassles regarding visas etc. Call the company you are talking to and get them to make a commitment on dates. Get them to fly you in and by doing so they will have to arrange a visitor's visa until you get (RP) residentila permit status.

If these people want you they should smooth the way, if they are being difficult ------ well you need to decide
