What job opportunities exist for women in Doha; what are the best family locations to live around Doha.

We are moving to Qatar in January as a family and will be looking to rent a family 'home' a villa would be nice - compound or not.

Can any one recommend the best areas to look for family accomodation around Doha, we have twin girls and would like to be in commuting distance of a school. To make matters a little more complicated we want to bring along the family pet (she's gone through all the vaccinations and has a pet passport etc).

My wife would like to look for work too (she is presently customer service manager for a building materials manufacturer) and is interested to know what opportunities for work there may be for her in Doha?

Thanks for all the advice folks. I am relocating with a major international company and have already visited on four occassions but the work has not permitted a great deal of free time on these trips to do any real research.

Thanks for the help

Before you come here you should be aware of certain things.... depending on which school you want your kids to go to, you may have major problems getting a place for them. American school has long waiting list, as does the two British schools. Before you sign on dotted line, make sure you have a place! Also, rents are sky high, hope this is part of package, average rent can be from $4000/ month in West Bay area for 3/4 bedroom house. Very very difficult to avoid the bad traffic. House across the road from the american school, it can still take 20/30 mins to drive to school because of traffic system and snarl-ups. There are school buses available at cost.

As to your wife and working, there are jobs here, not that many for expats as salaries are higher than using some other nationalities. Do your homework before you come unless you are coming with a major multinational company.

Cost of living high as well, but there are plenty shops and things to buy.

Ok. Making it quick, easy but painful...

The deal is ..

getting home within walking distance to school is next to impossible (slim picking). If you do get an accomodation within walking distance (say 10minutes). Walking in summer is a painful experience.

Most schoolies commute either with buses or priv. transportation arrangements.

Safe areas in qatar????

All of em are...

Hi Sir,

I would suggest the west bay lagoon. its quite safe, on the beach and close to all the action but its expensive as hell. I also suggest the area of Al Dafna, Madinat Khalifa and al markhiya where you will find some complexes there like the Riviera housing or the houses behind the lanmark mall. I'm sure that you will be given better suggestions soon by QL members.

I wish you a happy stay in Doha you and your family. :)
