Need Advice for Job Offer

By catz

I have job offer as Reservation and Ticketing Agent in some travel agent in Doha.

They offer me QAR 3000 + QAR 500 (hardship allowance).

With other benefit :
1. Free shared room
2. Free transport from / to office
3. Medical

How much is the living cost in Doha for a single ? how much for a standard Lunch & Dinner ?

Should I take the offer / not ?

Thanks before...

No. The cost of living will sink you.

I can survive (and did) on QR600 per month for food. But no savings. It can be done but extremely tight budget and no fun expenses. Everything's very expensive here. I still haven't gotten used to it. Anything I miss from home, I wait till I get home for 2 weeks, go crazy then come back here and behave.

Hardship allowance - MD's right.

Basically, the hardship of leaving your country and parking self in this land. Usually a percentage, most companies I know of (not here though) - 15% of basic salary, depending on how far you had to go away from home, be away from your family, etc. Some have up to 30% but I've never seen more .. but then again, I'm a small fry from a 3rd world country. Cheap-ish labour.

SN, 6am is so hard for you? consider my situation, got to wake up as early as 430am to avoid the bathroom rush.. take note that 7 persons are sharing 1 bathroom and the bus leaves at 630am.. I will file a complaint to the HR department tomorrow and ask for that "hardship" allowance.. I think I deserve that too.. lolz...

it really is far too low, catz, bcoz as far as i know 3500QAR was the rate of a Travel Agent 5years ago when i started working in abroad...

probably now, minimum for the said position is 5000QAR...

good luck on your decision...

I think you will be sorry if you accept this offer. Even if there is an increase next year, you have to know how much will it be. Makek sure before you accept any pormises. Good luck.

everyone should get a hardship allowance.....i should because getting up at 6am is quite hard for me!

By cheritz• 15 Nov 2008 19:34
cheritz

if that's the case, the allowance must be much bigger than his total salary??lol

first time to heard that allowance...all bachelors esp asian should have one...lol

maybe its sort of living allowance..

could be for food, clothes, etc. allowance.

By anonymous• 15 Nov 2008 19:28

it's a compensation for the "hardship" he will have to endure depending on his boss. There maybe also be "hardship" due to the weather, and there will be "hardship" because he has to share his room, and there will be "hardship" for not being allowed into the malls on family days, and there is "hardship" for giving up the freedom of movement, and ......

(I think 500 Riyals are not enough for all this "hardship").

By catz• 15 Nov 2008 19:26

I'll be base in Al Khor, apartment in Doha, so the company give QAR 500 as hardship allowance..

By cheritz• 15 Nov 2008 19:24

No, we're not in the West. But in the second richest country after Luxembourg measured by per capita income.

MD, house maids for 3000? we're not in the West!

By anonymous• 15 Nov 2008 19:05

It's not enough. Some in-house maids make 3.000 QR.

By catz• 15 Nov 2008 18:56
catz

I already try to ask more, but they think it's enough.

And the company review to raise the salary every year on Jan, so my salary will be review in Jan 2010.

How about it ? I really need your advice to decide.

FYI if I take the offer, I'll be base in Al Khor

By anonymous• 15 Nov 2008 18:35

I think your "hardship" will be greater than your "hardship allowance".
