dealing with dogs in islam

one of non moslim friends asked me about why islam is against dogs .i have not answered yet.i know that islam is not against dogs ,pegs or any animal.and i know that when GOD Prohibet something HE does it for our own good.i know about pegs but for dogs i am not sure.i heard that only the dog'saliva is the problem but not the dog just for being a dog.i olso know that story about the whore that filled one of her shoes with water to give it to the thirsty dog who could not reach out for the water .and GOD forgave her for all her sins only for that good deed she made for the dog so definitly islam is not against dogs.so any one knows for sure why we could not have dogs inside the house?thanks

Islam is not against dogs as the animal dog. However most muslims do not keep dogs for the reason that if a dog's saliva touches you, you have to change clothes (if it touches your clothes) and you should take a bath if the dog touched your skin before you pray.

Anyway this is quite a lot of hassle to go thru for just having a dog touch you and that is why Muslims do not have dogs. The same goes for having dogs in the house. It makes the house nahjis.

Maybe some muslims keep dogs now but wither they go thru the process of washing and changing clothes before they pray, or they are not they praying kind.

Also if you have given a dogs to drink water out of a vessel you should clean it 7 times.

This islamic rule is not applicable for other animals.

As for eating pork, no, this is against Islam for your own sake as it has been proven that a pig carries around 550 different microbes - causes for illnesses- which even if you cook it long it will not disappear.

Other animals a Muslim should not eat are animals that have claws( like birds of prey) or animals that have long incisors (like wolves, dogs and cats)

Hope this answers the question.

As I understand it, it is haram to have a dog in your house, but I do not recall the exact reason why. However, these days many Muslims keep dogs as pets.

Hi, please don't be offended, but....

Is this a knowledge test for Qlers or do you really want to know the answer?

The QL website has got a great bunch of people with a broad range of knowledge - but when it comes to islam, there is, without doubt, a huge gap.

I would suggest that you ask the question on one of the islamic websites - you are likely to get the right answer, rather than what we think the answer might be..:)
