Initially after coming to Doha I was planning to learn Arabic. But now I feel that its more important to learn Tamil than Arabic. I meet daily around 95% Tamil and may be 5 % Arabic people.

All hotels/Taxis/shops you will find Tamils , so don't you feel its good idea to learn Tamil than Arabic.

perhaps, the people you have contacted all malayalies. they spoke to you in your lanuage (tamil) 'cos they know almost all languages. keralites play a key role in india's economic stability through HR.

Hindi is the National Launguage of India, Malayalam & Tamil are two regional languages. As far as I know more than 25% of Qatar population are Indian and 80% of the Indian community are from Kerala/Tamilnadu, so its quite natural that you see a lot of Malayalm/Tamil speaking people around.
