The solution is very easy as I have never mentioned about Calculus its in simple geometry. The shortest distance from one tower two the other one is the hypotenuse since this is a simple 3-4-5 triangle the correct answer is 150m. I am sure you have so much rubbish in your brain like type of cable, temperature, humidity but do you know how to use your brain?
"My grandson is about as many days as my son is weeks, and my grandson is as many months as I am in years. My grandson, my son and I together are 100 years. Can you tell me my age in years?"
.
.
.
let x = age of grandson in years
y = age of son in years
z = your age in years
no. of "x" age in days = no. of "y" age in weeks
x = y / 7 ; y =7x
no. of "x" age in months = no. of "z" age in years
if he is referring to a cable that sags and barely touching the ground, then it's not what i'm thinking.
i am thinking of a 'Stay' cable tied at the apex of towers and on a collinear point on the ground between 2 towers which must be defined by maxima/minima to determine the least length.
yeah, as what DMS said, if you want to be precise on the answer, you must give the cable properties, temperature, wind factors etc. etc. etc... then we will give you your answers.
i'll drop this one, due to ambiguity and let others do the math... ;)
the other one is simply a string or an imaginary string or cable that you tied on each apex of the towers and hold it touching anywhere in the ground and just measuring the distances on each point of contact.

Geometry when you can not even sure about the question falls under geometry or calculus?
And I am not judging others, not everybody understand geometry or calculus or even what you are asking?
If you are asking just to connect it, then thats plain Geometry or even Trigo, but letting the cable touch the ground, tell me what kind of cable? What are the properties of the cable? The weight , elasticity what else, did I forget something, Yano?
"dgoodrebel will always be the rebellious good one"
I have to leave for a while. I will check when I will be back if somebody finds the correct answer. Bye for now.
Edit: Lets not get far from question itself :)
You have two towers with the height of 60m and 30m. The distance between them is 120m. What will be the minimum length of a cable if you need to connect their top while you have to touch the ground. (I tried to draw it as much as i can to make it easy to understand. Its up to you from where you touch the ground)
Edit:Its not appearing as its shown in preview. I had to edit it. "^" is used for blank. Sorry.

not everybody can relate to it! Or is this the way to make other disappear for a while in the forum (because it takes time to answer your quizzes, Mr. Mathematicians)!

true
even I have been tricked on tests where the use of diagrams and a paragraph of writing simply cause out minds to shift gears in the wrong direction.
the truth of math lies in being able to relate a to b and b to c.
everything is relative to everything else!
the thread calls for little math...
but algebra can be made tricky,
if you play the words :)
hey, simple algebra,

i do further math as school, this stuff is common knowledge for us
why all of a sudden your diagram changed?
unless you show a clear diagram that clearly defines your problem... i will simply consider it as rubbish, just like you had said... hahahahaha!!
the cable would be 150m long, it would hit the ground 80m from the tall tower.

here goes;
A man wanted to get into his work building, but he had forgotten his code. However, he did remember five clues. These are what those clues were:
The fifth number plus the third number equals fourteen.
The fourth number is one more than the second number.
The first number is one less than twice the second number.
The second number plus the third number equals ten.
The sum of all five numbers is 30.
What were the five numbers?
"My grandson is about as many days as my son is weeks, and my grandson is as many months as I am in years. My grandson, my son and I together are 100 years. Can you tell me my age in years?"
.

x = y / 7 ; y =7x
no. of "x" age in months = no. of "z" age in years
x = z / 12 ; z =12x
then, x + y + z = 100
substitute y and z;
x + 7x + 12x = 100
or,
20x = 100
x = 5
y = y*x = 35
z = x*12 = 60

I apologize, happy now?
"dgoodrebel will always be the rebellious good one"
as i see it...
it is in socialising thread... so what gives??
that is actually a maxima/minima problem in calculus... are your sure it's geometry?
the way i see it, it is two right triangle with both hypotenuse combined equivalent as the cable length...
the point at the ground must be defined to produce the least cable length.
you invoked the word "minimum" so it automatically falls to calculus' maxima/minima category...
Its simple geometry :-P

3263442 is correct. You multiply the number with n+1 where n is the number itself. So the next after the next would be
10650053687364.
lol. you multiply the number by itself and add the same number once. yeah right, not hard.
cheers,
