what is the standard of choueifat school as compaired to Dess and park house, how expensive it could be,coming from U.K with 4 yrs old boy which school would be the best for us?
If your child has a UK passport, choose DESS or Doha College, both of which are supported by the British Embassy. If he doesn't have a UK passport, it's unlikely he'll be accepted because they're always over-subscribed.
The other good schools are the American School, which gives priorities to children whose parents work for their sponsors (mainly oil companies). Qatar Academy is also good, I've heard, but is also difficult to get into.
After that, you have a lot of English-speaking schools, which are pretty variable. Some of them have been going one or two years. Others have high staff turnovers. Search this site for stories about the schools you're investigating. If you can, visit a school and ask to observe a class of 4-year-olds.
Choueifat is a Lebanese school, which has high standards, but it might be overly strict if you're looking for something similar to a British primary school.
If you make the wrong choice, it's not the end of the world. Plenty of kids switch schools.
The school fees are at Park House are NOT QR40,000. Not in primary section at least. Primary section has small classes, maximum of 25 in a class where as Choueifat believes in very big classes where it is not unusual to have 35 in a class of primary students and even bigger classes as the students get older.
If you check on the Park House web site you will find the school fees displayed on the admissions page. I believe that DESS school fees are close to those of Park House. Choueifat fees are much less but then their classes are much bigger.
DESS gives priority to British passport holders but there are many other nationailities there as well. Park House does not give preference to any nationality. There are many nationalities in each class from Qataris, Indians, Lebanese, Egyptians, British, South Africans etc. Such a mix of foreign students gives the school a real international feel about it.
Choueifat and Park House school include arabic lessons in their cirriculum. Park House teaches IPC (International Primary Cirriculum). DESS is a purely British school following the cirriculum from the UK. Choueifat teaches its own cirriculum which is a mix of british/american. Choueifat has lots of exams starting from year 1.
i think park house costs almost QR40,000.. not sure..
and i have no knowledge about DESS.. if you're interested with park house, i suggest you check the school as early as possible.. as they're always full and their priority is those who hold British PR..
