Does anyone know if there is car-pooling available in Doha? If not, anyone interested to start one?

I will be moving to Doha next week and will start work near the intersection of C Ring Road and Al Matar Street. Not sure yet where my temporary housing will be but I'm sure it will be fairly central.

I have a valid driver's license but I haven't driven on a regular basis for the past 20 years. I'm just trying to find clever ways to get from home to work and back without having to drive myself.

I would greatly appreciate some thoughtful responses. :-)

Thank you very much for your responses, Torc and galloper48!

My issue is that I don't want to drive in Qatar at all. I also do not wish to give up my New York Driver's license as I would probably be there for a year or two. I'm more interested in hiring someone with a car to drive me back and forth to work. I'm more environmentally conscious, so I thought maybe there was car pooling around to save on gas and perhaps share the expense of a driver.

I will definitely check with my fellow co-workers what they do with transportation.

Again, I appreciate all of your inputs. :-)

Hey welcome to Doha.

When you say you have a valid driver's license you mean for your country, right? Then by arrival you should check with the proper authorities if you are entitled to swap license from canadian to qatari. If not then you have to perform the driving test to get the qatari DL which will be the only valid for you while living/working here in Qatar.

On the other hand the car pooling agreements ussually happen with people living/working in the same place or nearby areas. You should check with colleagues at work.

Otherwise you can hire a driver for as long as you need it and he will eventually take you back and forth office/home. I have a few numbers I can share....just upon arrivel let me know.

Best of luck.

Car pooling is done by some but usually for school drives. You will have to see when you arrive with any colleagues living in your area etc....

You are best to hire a driver at a daily or month rate to drop and collect you everyday.
