Is PCC really required? Also is the attestation required?

I am coming to Qatar and have obtained a PCC from my Embassy. Some of my friends have advised me to attest it from Qatar Embassy. Some friends have told me that their PCC was not even checked by any body after coming to Qatar.

I have asked several friends what is the real need of PCC but no body could explain me to my satisfaction.

Is PCC needed to issue the job visa ? Probably NO

Is PCC required to convert Job visa to RP ? Again a probably NO.

One of my friend even told me that PCC IS ONLY THE REQUIREMENT OF THE COMPANY EMPLOYING YOU. Once u submit them the PCC they just put it in your personal file and no further action is required.

One of my friend told me that this was required during Asian games time but now not so serious requirement.

The posts on Qatar Living.com also have not provided me with a satisfying answer.

Can any body shed more light on this?

Thanks.

A PCC is required for some Nationalities to apply for the visa. I dont have any idea about your Nationality. If you have already got a work visa then I dont think it is required but as you already got one get it attested and bring it with you to be safe.

i am in the midst of doing it too, the qatar embassy in my country has been fairly helpful in pointing out what was needed. so here goes:

PCC is absolutely needed and it must be attested by the qatar embassy in your home country. the above answers are right, sometimes they check, sometimes they dont, but play it safe, better to do it, god knows we don't want to go through more hassle when in doha right?

same goes for degree attestation. they want to know you are qualified for the job and the cert you sent them is not a fake. according to recruitment specialist at http://www.jerryvarghese.com/employers_03doc.htm#Qatar

"it necessary that each new recruit shall present copies of his / her academic or technical certificates endorsed by the original institution which issued them. These certificates shall also be duly authenticated by the concerned official authorities in Qatar and the embassy of the country from where these documents are obtained. This conditions applies to all new candidates who are readily spotted for employment in positions that require academic certificates. The certified documents will be asked for upon authentication of employment contracts at the Labour Department."

When I came to Qatar a couple of years back, my Employer asked for a PCC and they also asked me to get it attested by Qatar Embassy in India.

I did get the PCC but never bothered to get it attested by the Qatar Embassy, as its a tedious process to get it done in India. Hence, i just sent a scanned copy of my PCC and everything went through comfortably. When i arrived here in Qatar until today nobody has ever asked me for a original copy of my PCC.

In another case, a friend of mine will be arriving to qatar shortly and joining my company. When his offer was rolled off to him, he was asked by our employer to get his PCC attested. But he wasnt lucky enough to get through as I did. They insisted him to get the PCC attested by Qatar Embassy in India. He had to go through the pain of getting it done.

This proves that the PCC is needed by only your employer and it is not a requirement by the Visa issuing authority.

I have just joined a company in Doha and there is absolutly no need of PCC or attestaion of certificates. However its essential by UAE regulations but not here in Qatar.

Its better if you check with your employers before proceeding. So you dont call me lair afterwards......cheers

when u have already got ur PCC then its better to get it attested by Qatar Embassy in ur country.

its better to play safe, many companies do require a PCC to ensure that the new employee does not have a criminal background.
