QAWS ANNOUNCEMENT
For various reasons, several members of the QAWS committee resigned tonight. Rest assured the shelter will continue to operate but please be patient as the reduced personnel may result in some changes to the opening times and shelter policies.
We will endeavour to keep you all informed of any changes and hope we can rely on your support to help us keep the animals the priority during this difficult time. Please contact if you are interested in helping out at all.
Your continued support is, as always, greatly appreciated.
Desert Queen, Scarlett and Moonbeam, thank you for your dedicated service on behalf of these animals.

Hello to all of the above mentioned Ladies. Having read your post regarding Qaws and the resignation as committee members, as you ladies obviously have first hand knowledge and experience of the organization, could you fill me in on the organization. I have just come into Doha from South Africa and have worked in similar animal welfare society's FOTC (Friends of the Cat) FORA (Friends of Rescued Animals) and the SPCA in SA. How is the organization run? what are the facilities like? how many Vets are on site, if any? How are the funds raised for the upkeep of the animals and shelter? Has the Shelter reached it's capacity for the housing of the animals? What is the average headcount of volenteers?
Your information would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to consider assisting with our homeless feline's and canine's
have an outbreak of Rabies, as all dogs brought into the country have to have their Rabies shots 30days before entering and to date, none of the street dogs brought into the shelter have had the disease.... You are more likely to drop down from a heart attack in this country than have a Rabies outbreak....

You can't teach experience...
Those should really be paid positions...
My one big gripe with this city...
How can a modern society not have an animal shelter is beyond me??? Especially one as wealthy as this...
What if there was an outbreak of rabbies???
You can't teach experience...
Congrats on your baby Moonbeam :)and good luck to Qaws!
this is the true aspect of life...
thank you tallg! i had forgotten how time consuming it was to have a baby.......... but it's always worth it.
A fair decision to step down
Hope you and your baby are doing fine ....
It is good that you have cleared all the doubts in your post which we had, I was thinking to send a PM to Scarlett to see if we can be of any help ...

moonbeam - you don't accept PMs so I'll use this thread to say CONGRATULATIONS on your little one!
as always, you are the epitome of good works!!
the best way to help is to funnel all your efforts through Poppy now, for the shelter. They are in desperate need of help and support at this moment.
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.
Dear QL members, QAWS supporters and Friends,
Sadly the above statement written by Chelsea is correct. Three of us; Desert Queen, Scarlett and myself (Moonbeam) have resigned from QAWS, effective yesterday. The committee which was made up of the three of us and headed by Poppy, will now go under a restructuring phase and when the new committee has been elected, I am sure that Chelsea will inform you all as she has mentioned.
I wish to put to rest any assumptions, as to why this decision was made; as it has come to our attention that Poppy has been privately berated and questioned about the circumstances surrounding our resignation. Whilst we thank you for your show of solidarity in coming to our defense; we think that maybe recent events have led people to believe that this decision was not our own.
Scarlett, Desert Queen and I decided to step down as committee members for our own personal reasons. DQ and I have been committee members for over a year now, and Scarlett came in during the hardest and most trying part of the year, summertime. The satisfaction of watching the animals find new homes and the joy and fulfilment have been extremely rewarding, but like in most Animal humane societies, there is a high turnover rate of volunteers and active members for one simple reason. It's called, Compassion fatigue. Your life becomes the shelter, and when it becomes hard to smile, you know it's time for a break.
I, for one, have realised that I no longer have the time to dedicate myself to QAWS since the birth of my baby, and feel that the animals are better off having a committee member that can devote more time to their cause.
I know I speak for the three of us that Poppy has our utmost respect, and as former members of the QAWS committee, she has our full support and well wishes in the continuation of the Shelter. We have resigned only from QAWS as committee members, but we remain friends with Poppy and more importantly, united in our support for the continued well being of the animals here in Qatar. We will continue to support her in her endeavours to obtain charity status, so that QAWS can finally get the recognition it deserves, and truly be able to assist everyone that calls on it for help.
"Qatar Living" is a very powerful entity. Your continued help and support will make it a reality for the animals of Qatar to have a safe and healthy environment in which to wait for a loving "forever" home to come available. Please be aware of the plight of these creatures and their continued need of your support and love. In the ongoing process of housing these animals, Poppy most definitely will need a show of support and backing from the QL society and also from the animals lovers in this country. Please, don't forget our animal friends; because, in the end, all that matters ARE the animals.
Moonbeam,
Desert Queen & Scarlett
