Moving to Doha :: Flats near the Ed. City

Hullo everyone

I've been offered a job in Doha, and would be arriving early November. I'll be working at the Education City. Ideally, I'd like to move into an apartment near my job.

Initially, the company is going to provide me with a furnished apartment for the first month or so, and by the time my family (wife and a baby son), I'd have to find my own accommodation.

I 'Google Earth'ed (if there's such a thing) Doha, and closest residential area is Al-Rayyan. Could anyone provide any advice on the apartments available in that area (or any other for that matter), and the usual rents for a 2-bedroom furnished apartment. I'm looking for something in the range of QR 7000-8000.

Any other advice/help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

with you the-birdie. Yes, Doha is a small town (in size) but it has a million people with roads built to only handle a fraction of that number. It can easily take an hour to go across town. I recommend finding a place as close to your employment as possible.

hi,, Doha is a small city ( I may call it a big TOWN ). To reach one part of the city from antoher part is not a big deal.

You need not stay in a remote place and lose the enjoyment of city life.

You may select any place, still you will reach your Office in time, if you take a little care.

Doha is a small city ( I may call a big TOWN ).. so access to one point to another point is not a big deal.

You dont need to stay in a remote place and lose the enjoyment in the heart of city... Better to be ANYWHERE in Doha, you will reach office in time, I am sure

Yes, I like to get my ducks in order before hand also. But it would be SO hard to do that here. I was lucky, our Education City school gave us a few choices and sent us pictures. We just love our place. But a friend of mine moved in close to us after looking just a couple of days. The villa she had all set from the US turned out not to have a septic tank or sewer connection. Oooops. Seems no one noticed?! She had to scramble once she got here. That's why it's best to do it "hands on." Glad you have a place to park while you look.

Thanks, Mandi.

Thats what I was planning to do anyway. I guess we're (especially my wife) naturally anxious relocating to a new place, and kinda excited too. Seems like the best way to find accommodation is the word of mouth.

Btw.. QL is a really nice forum. Really does bring the community together.

Oh, and guys, more advice wouldn't hurt.

Hello and welcome! Don't worry about sticking too close to Education City, there are other close-by areas with nice housing. The Villagio/Al Waab area is about ten minutes away as is Al Gharrafa (in the opposite direction.) Much of West Bay is about 15 minutes down al Luqta Road. Best thing is to take advantage of the temporary housing for a month and get oriented and explore from there. You'll find something, especially by networking with new coworkers.
