Thinking of moving to this part of the World
By Janet Poynton •
I am thinking of moving and working in Doha.
I am single 'mature' lady.
What sort of things should I be asking my prospective new employer?
What advice can you offer me so I can avoid the pitfalls of Doha.
I currently live in the Middle East but not in Qatar so have experience of 8 years of living with the culture.
No, it's really not a problem. I had a friend coming in with an Israeli stamp and I actually called the Qatar Embassy in DC who very admantly said that it was not an issue.

Good to know, deedee. The few people I know who have traveled to Israel have used duplicate passports. Guess that's not necessary after all.
Deedee thanks for this. Was really sweating that I would need to go to the expense of a new passport. Glad someone has entered Qatar with this stamp in their passport.
My husband has one in his passport. Israeli passport people stamped his by mistake. We have not had a problem with it at all. We were sweating, anticipating a problem at passport control. They simply asked us where we were coming from. We said Amman. It was the truth. No problem and its been 1 1/2 years now.
Hi Janet and welcome. Didn't see your post till now, but Mandi gave you good advice. I think you'll find life in Qatar a little easier than Egypt.
As for the Israeli stamp, I've heard that it can be a problem. Admittedly, that's hearsay, but you should make sure before you come, so you don't find yourself stuck at the airport.
Anyway, stick around QL. It's a great place to get your questions answered. Good luck with the move!
Thank you guys for the help.
Fingers crossed, everything goes according to plan.
with the offer like that .. you'll surely love qatar..
as usual like other middle east countries Be careful with men..
"letting go doesn't mean ur weak, only shows you're stronger to let go"
No, an Israeli stamp is no problem

Thank you for your message. My package will include car and apartment fortunately as I had heard about the expensive accommodation.
As for living surrounded by men - at present I live and work in a remote area of Egypt in a hotel. There are probably 2000 men and there are only a few women, so this does not actually bother me, as the people I work with respect me and my privacy.
I do have one question that maybe you can help me with. I have an Israeli stamp in my passport, will this affect my getting entry into Qatar - I know for some Gulf states it is.
Janet
Welcome, Janet, I hope you do move to Qatar! I would venture that your first question would be about accomodation. You would want it to be fully paid for by your employer and in a nice and convenient part of town. I have a girlfriend who is living alone in an area where there are 99 men to every woman and she is a bit uncomfortable. You also will need to drive in Doha,it's just not a great place for taxis and there is no accessible public transportation to speak of. There is a nice social network with churches, women's groups, restaurants and shopping and I find I meet a lot of my friends at the gym (ladies only, of course.) There are many single adult women here in Doha, particulary in Education City. I'm sure you'll find friends easily.
