QL is feeding the newspapers...

I was very surprised yesterday when I saw a reference to a QL thread in Peninsula newspaper (3th page article about the 50 dirhams robbery).

And I think there was reference too, but not so explicit in the first page article about the "Family day" in the souqs and malls during Eid as there was references to western expats opinions...

WTH! Journalists are writing checking the news in internet?

@oryx, lol but then we've got a real person not some cyber dude.

Support in Qatar? Or UK team? If UK I used to be a Man U fan but I've not paid attention to football.

IN Qatar I don't support anyone because my cousins each support a different team and the go on and on and on and on and on.

News is the easiest stuff to do today.....

a SatTV, InternetPC, a Radio....a news reader...and a couple of softwares are all thats required to run a News Channel.

One doesnt even need reporters....lol

...No wonder there are so many news channels!

'How do we know joe blogs wasn't drunk, pissed of, a liar, or a racist just saying something?'

Oh yes, I realise that QL is often the original source for their stories. It's just in this case they do seem to have done some further research as well (which isn't always the case).

It's like QL is The Peninsula's muse, sitting here looking all pretty and providing inspiration for their cutting edge stories and ground breaking revelations.

Just like I used to be your muse. Ah, the good old days....;-)

Trust me tallg, in multiple occassions they've 'quoted' members and used them as a source for their direction in the article.

To be fair guys, if you read the full article you'll see that they've done more than just cut-n-paste quotes from QL. The section about QL is only 2 paragraphs out of 11.

My issue is with them not providing the full website for QL.

Let's face it where is the best place to get information ?? QL of course, but as a journalist, they should only use it as background information and they should be in the field digging up more.

it seems that journalist here are sitting on their desks and reading QL for any news and feedbacks

at the end of the day, if journalists use forum users and a reference for news then they're not doing a very good job as journalists. They're supposed to take a lead and do their own research while verifying all the information they have is factual and accurate.

@tallg, Ms Managing director say's she's not happy with that and disappointed with her staff who are undergoing training :P

I've got used to The Peninsula getting stories from QL and come to accept this method of journalism, but it really annoys me how they don't provide a proper link back to this website. They're assuming all their readers know what Qatar Living is and just put 'Qatar Living (QL)', instead of 'www.qatarliving.com'.

Come on Ms Managing Editor, I know you'll be reading this. Sort it out!
