Help! I need Malaria alternatives, can Hamad help?

By gasiorowska •
Help! I'm going to Tanzania next week on holiday and my doctor has prescribed me with Mefloquine antimalarial tablets. But I'm really worried about the side effects - anxiety, nightmares, paranoia, confusion, depression and suicidal thoughts - apparently 25% of people can be effected.
I asked him for an alternative, and he prescribed chloroquine which is pointless because 60% of parasites in Tanzania are resistant to it. :-(
Does anyone know what I can do to get an alternative - ideally I'm after Malarone which has the least side effects - is it true I can go to Hamad Hospital and get more options?

Oryx, gosh thank you for your response. Unfortunatley not all of us are as well travelled as you are, but then again some of us have better manners, and don't respond to strangers appeals for help by being rude...
OH For F**k's sake its only Tanzania for a little holiday...you aren't going up the Congo...
its touristy Tanzania

wash / impregnate your clothes in citronella
