Asian bachelors whipped by Souq police

I know this has been a thread for a while now but it has reached shocking levels(see article below). I vote for labourers going on strike...but of course they can't. Surely something can be done. What are the Human Rights Committee doing about this?

Human Rights? What human rights- we are not in a democratic nation. They could care less what we (expats) think. We could protest/write letters and boycott all we want and I don't think it will really matter.

BUT point out that the Qaran clearly states that racism is wrong and maybe we can get somewhere. One of the Imam's need to get involved with this and say something on the subject for Qatari's to care.

LifeisBeautiful - Why enforce a blanket ban on all asian single men? Why not have better trained (and better paid) and effective security officers who can handle the so called 'lechers' on a case to case basis. If you support this ban, I'm sure you'd do very well as an Indian politician. Typical knee-jerk reaction to a problem that can be handled in a civilised way.

A good starting point would be to stop men in smelly / sweaty coveralls and workboots from entering the malls anytime of the week.

Next, work on identifying and dealing with "groups" of men "loitering" inside and around the premises.

As you can see, it all comes down to effective policing / crowd control. But I think this will never happen as Qatar is a seriously cash strapped nation with struggling businesses who cannot afford to upgrade their security personnel. LOL!

Finally, heres a tip to all enterprising women who'd like to earn a quick buck (morally I mean). Hang around the malls, and charge single men 10QR to be accompanied inside. Just imagine how much you could make on a good day. :-)

didn't realise it was already on here...most of you seem to be on the other thread anyway though

i think that what makes it worse is that in the malls and the parks the security guards are having to turn away their fellow countrymen. i'm sure that they get lots of grief as well...

I heard one woman make this comment, which I thought was pretty sane and deserved a wider audience:

"If I go on the tube in London, or visit a tourist site in Rome, or call into a road-side diner in the US, or sit in a meeting with a bunch of businessmen, some guy is going to stare at my tits. It's only in the Gulf that you'd exclude certain races from shops because of lechery, and it's only here that Western women would endorse that decision."

some of those guys do nothing inside except to stare at women which can be so uncomfortable... but then the security could have at least just turn them away in a HUMANE way... how rude of them to shoo them away like animals!!!

By greentea• 2 Oct 2008 11:56

This might sound stupid but I actually support it. I'am from India and I can vouch that this policy does more good than bad to the bachelors from the sub continent. It's better to be denied access than to be branded lechers in public. The problem is,we people from the subcontunent love to stare at women and if given a chance we would actually scan them from head to toe. It about the attitude. I feel disgusted whenevr I see people from the subcontinent in groups standing in one corner coz they dont have the balls to go and shop and stare at women of every nationality as if they are aliens. Lets accept the fact - Most of our people dont go to the malls for shopping;they go for having a good time starting at the females of different races. 'Look at that chick','Wow look at that a**' and similar other expressions are very common and popular in these circles. If you want to test the validity of what I'am saying you juist have to go to the souqs and find it for your self.:ook at what these 'bachelors' have made out of these shopping places. They actually behave like retards if they see a girl and mind you the girl doesn't even have to be well endowed. They would pick on anyone. It's quite embarassing being a fellow citizen.Specially men from India,Pakistan and Bangladesh act as if they haven't seen a female in generations. Quite shameless I would say. If I had a family I would definately not want my women folks to be subjectedto the Xray eyes of these stupid men. They even make comments most of the times in there language. Agreed that there are Egyptian and Arabs who also do the same but I haven't noticed such blatant behavior from them. And also, these 'bans' are oly on special occassions. So why complain. It's THEIR country and they have all the right to decide what policy they want. It's these 'bachelors' who should change their attitude.

Life is Beautiful...Indeed!
