The event will be on the 4th September - 9th September 2008 at the Tennis Khalifa Stadium. The world's Top 8 players and Top 4 double teams in the world will compete in the ladies tennis most prestigious event in terms of prize money.

This year, Doha will stage the finale of the WTA tennis event. Currently the world top 5 players have qualified namely: Serena William, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Dinara Safina and Elena Dementieva.

The IT girl of tennis, Maria Sharapova will miss this years event due to shoulder injury.

There wont be any free tickets for the event, according to the organiser. However, the ticket price starts from QR10 onwards and will increase as the tournament progress.

Tickets will be on sale starting 12th October at the Corniche post Office, City Center and Villagio.

So, tennis fans, don't miss this once in the lifetime ( for me it is! ) opportunity.

Will update here with more infos later!

greentea - Do your best to organise everyone well and keep them quite while they're stood waiting to get to their seats. At previous events everyone is so noisy!!! And make sure everyone gets the seats they've paid for. At the start of this year the seating policy was a farce. Thank you!

It is a shame that the venue doesn't have wheelchair access. Hence, I can't go :(

Have you seen the additional seats they're putting in for this? Built on scaffolding towering above the original stadium. Not sure I'd feel that safe sitting on them!
