Dangerous to ride in Qatar

I recently attended a church here in Doha, and a woman who has just given birth told her story about how she almost got raped when she rode an "unofficial" taxi. (If you happen to notice in Qatar there are numerous cars roaming around whose drivers ask you if you want a ride to get you to your destination, for a fee of course. These are not Karwa taxis, these are drivers who have a car-- maybe not even their own-- and operate it like a taxi.) She went on to relate her story which, if her not for her funny comments would really have been very serious and it would have made you scared. She said she never used to ride these "colorum" transports, but she was in a hurry and she was very careful of looking and assessing the driver before she agreed to ride with this one.

It's a fact that not all people here in Doha are GOOD. I would suggest women NEVER to ride these transports, and if they do... i hope the story above would give you a good warning.

And for all you "BAD" drivers out there... your days are numbered.

Take care.

if you drive in a karwa taxi just be very assertive and let them know that you know EXACTLY where to go and be very firm then they usually back off. Overall my experience with Karwa has been good.

Thank you for the story and the warning, Skap. We tend to get complacent here in Doha and think we are immune from any kind of crime. It IS important that we know the facts and take the necessary precautions to keep ourselves safe.
