What is the reason behind the unfixed prices of food items and other things in Qatar?
It is very hard for the lower salaried class people to live with this high expensive shops?
Should there be a price fixing system?

Brit those who cant afford to live here should simply leave its not ur father country so why dont u leave..

secondly what a lame answer. u wont have a problem becasue u r a brit and here people put ur passport before god so u dont have aproblem but there are millions of people who have better qualification then urs are getting low salaries go do the math...

anyway who cares WTF...phmmmm...not in a mood to discuss this BS with mr brit..

as long as one has work, one can afford one's living..it may not be the way he wants it, like a life of luxury...but still, a way of living that fits with his low salary. i think, its not a question of affording much or surviving..

i dont live in qatar, so i guess i really dont know if i had the right to say that but i live in tokyo. quite.quite.expensive.

juz passing thru*

The simple answer is that those who cannot afford to live here or survive on the salaries paid, should leave.

if these locals would have any humanity they would not inflate prices out of the picture. qatar was a good place to live probably 10 years bck but now you can get almost better salary even if they take the tax in other countries minus the shit tratment from qatari. there is no savings left for expats here and no regulation and these locals are just getting rich and rich so just being a qatari.WTFG

If the lower wage workers are looking for cheaper foodstuff, try the wholesale markets. We go there occasionally and the produce is sometimes fresher than the supermarket... and considerably cheaper. I bought a box of tomatoes for 8 QR, 6 dole pineapples for like 20QR. There are definate savings. For dry goods try the Al Meera (formerly Co-Op). Their prices are usually 1-3 QR less than major supermarkets.

Instead of investing in US (where they loose billions now), GCC countries should start investing in agrarian/agricultural at the third world contries, like Indonesia for example :)

Been both to Dubai, still think Doha's pricier when it comes to food items...

Petrol is costlier in Dubai though! n yeah Road tolls(Salik) too...

At the end of our life our questions are simple: Did I live fully? Did I love well?

as I might try. But when I hail a taxi for my Filipina or Sri Lankan babysitter the fare is usually half of what I pay!! Why is that?! As for housing, don't get me started...!!

Voyageress ... i hv met you and you come across as westerner. So cant blame to those house agent who showed you the 'upper class' housing lol.

By Voyageress• 22 Sep 2008 22:45

for example, if I call for a taxi I'm quoted a lot less if I say I'm not a westerner. Also, regarding rent, we weren't shown anything under 18,000 Qrs per month and ended up paying a lot more... There seem to be varying levels of prices here!!

there is no reason for this increase as inflation is increasing everwhere...the only part where we find qatar expensive is accomodation....for a regular 3bhk the range starts from QR5000 but in other GCC countries it hardly cost QR2.5k to 3k...

high here, surprisingly so! I think it's possible to find cheaper items but you have to "shop around". With "unfixed" prices there's room for negotiation, e.g. in the Souks.

large amount of raw food is available in Asian countries which is less costly and while it is coming to Qatar it is expensive.Of course most of the supermarkets getting benefited from this.

The same food is so cheap in countries like Oman or Saudi.

The guy is talking about lower salaried people...who knows he may not have heard of Louis Vuitton, Yves Lacroix, etc. Do you know of any low salaried person who shops at Luois Vuitton. Like MD said, does LV sell food and other things? Give him break!
