So we go to the Police Station?

Peternz
By Peternz

I've been reading the posts on traffic accidents & I'm about to turn in my rental & take delivery of my own car. While driving the rental I'm not too worried, I've got a card with a phone number to call if anything went wrong. No accidents.
( may have been good to have one & get it out of the way)

But---------

Now I'll be on my own.

So someone hits you and you are still mobile? You both drive directly to a police station? What happens if they won't go?

Where do I get a list of police stations to keep handy?

I saw something about you have to pay up to 50% of the cost of the parts?

Any help appreciated.

etc, etc etc,

Ok, That's very helpful. My first concern was the use of 999 to report a non-injury accident. I'm used to this number only for "emergencies".

It's also good to hear that they actually come. At home you'd be lucky to get police to come if you called in the middle of a mugging. So that's good.

Scarlett - I followed your previous posts with great interest - have you got to the part about having to pay for parts yet? Is that true, even with comprehensive insurance.

Others - Thank-you for the feedback - much appreciated.

Greetings.

As soon as an accident takes place, make sure that no one in your vehicle is hurt. Call 999 as soon as possible to report the incident, it doesn't take much time for the police to arrive at the scene. Talk to the other party involved and try to relocate your cars at the nearest and safest area, so as not to cause any blockage to other commuters. And get each others mobile phone numbers and car license plates.

If in case a person is severely hurt, inform the police and they will send in an ambulance. But do not move your cars.

Upon arrival of the police, they will try to make a quick investigation of the event, and will ask you to proceed to the nearest police station. Usually they bring in the parties involved directly to the Traffic Police Station (Muroor) in Madinat Khalifa.

They will make their judgment upon the presentation of both parties and will determine who is at fault. It is then the insurance company of the person at fault which will have to pay for the damages.

The beneficiary of the insurance company will have to secure the police report. File it at the company and get the car fixed.

I hope this helps you.

Dial 999 , take your car to a safety place and wait the police . And don't forget to take the plate number of the another car .

We had an accident only two weeks ago , an arabic guy hit our car at a small roundabout in Al Hilal . A police came there , with normal Qatari clothes and a normal car . Even I thought the arabic guy cheating me with a Qatari friend of his , and resisted to take the car far away from accident place . The police ( he didn't wear a police uniform ) told me that he will fine me 1000 riyals for resisting the police , and told us to visit Airport traffic station next day .

Anyway , I desperately went to police station . My driver was Nepali , other guy was Arabic ( probably Qatari ) and I had no hope for justice . Then I saw the guy who came as police yesterday , he recognized me . He asked how the accident happened , and prepared an official report . Then they told us that we are not guilty and can we can get paid by Qatar insurance if we apply within 15 days . By the way , he didn't fine me 1000 riyals for resistance .

As I see , justice works well about trafic accidents and Qatar police solves the problem very quick . So don't panic if an accident happens , just call the police .

Hi!

First of all if you met an accident you have to wait for the police to arrive (if major),if not, both of you can go the police station. If they refuse to go with you, then take their details like; License no. of the driver, the plate no. of the car, contact nos. and if possible take a picture of the damages.

Usually your insurance will take care of the repair but it depends whos fault was it. If his, then, his insurance will take care of it and vice-versa.

You can call 999 or 180 for the nearest police station near you.

Cheers.

ok..from new experience...

If you are able to and there are no bodily injuries...call the police immediately(999)...then move the cars to a safe location. GET THE OTHER PERSON'S INFO!! MOBILE PHONE NUMBER AND LICENSE PLATE INFO!!!!!

What they told me on the phone was that I could go to the police station closest to the accident, within the next 24 hours and report it. If possible, make the other person go with you right then, tho..much easier to deal with things that way. You will need to have your driver's license and car insurance card with you.

After you file the report, if you are the one who got hit, you will have to go to the other person's insurance agency and file the report and the insurance company will give you another piece of paper verifying that they will pay for damages. Then you go to the dealer repair service center for estimate and make an appointment to take your car in to be fixed...That's as far as I've gotten so far!!!

Don't worry...a rental can get hit just as quickly as an owner car...just drive as safely as possible and keep your eyes open...WIDE open!!! Best of luck!!

if the accident is minor, make sure you remove your car if it is blocking the traffic. With the new traffic law you will get QR 1000 penalty for not removing the car.
