Suspected child murders shock IsraelisPublished: Thursday, 4 September, 2008, 02:19 AM Doha Time

Marie Pisam, the mother of 4-year-old missing girl Rose, leaves a court in the Israeli city of Netanya yesterday
JERUSALEM: Israel was transfixed yesterday by the deaths of two children who police believe were drowned by their mothers, cases that stirred emotions already reeling from the suspected killing of a girl by her grandfather.
A court ordered the mother of a boy, aged four, held for nine days for police questioning on suspicion that she drowned him on Tuesday in a bathtub in their apartment in Tel Aviv.
The woman’s lawyer said her client, who has not been charged, was suffering from mental health problems.
On Friday, police arrested the mother of another four-year-old boy and said she had drowned him at the beach and had described her son as a burden.
Police are still searching for the body of Rose Pizem, whose grandfather — her mother’s live-in lover — is suspected of killing the four-year-old and throwing her corpse into a Tel Aviv river in a suitcase.
The girl’s disappearance and the boys’ deaths have been dominating media coverage in Israel and stirring a national debate about child abuse in a country where a quarter of the population is under the age of 15.
“The instinct that is embedded so deep in us, to protect our children, received a terrible shock over the past week,” columnist Anat Medan wrote in Israel’s biggest newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth. “Suddenly, it became clear that the child who yells ‘mommy’ doesn’t always receive a hug and a kiss.”
Meanwhile a lie detector test has raised new doubts over claims Rose was dumped in a river, police said yesterday.
Police suggested that Ronny Ron, the girl’s grandfather, had lied about how he disposed of the body.
“The answers given on Tuesday during a lie detector test raises serious doubts,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
He declined to give further details, but army radio cited police sources saying they now doubted the girl’s body had been dumped in a river.
Ron had said during questioning that he beat the girl to death and stuffed her body in a suitcase which he threw into Tel Aviv’s Yarkon river.
Divers have been scouring the murky, polluted river for a week but found no clue.
Police suspect that the murder occurred in May, but the girl’s disappearance was only brought to their attention about three weeks ago when her great-grandmother contacted welfare authorities.
Although he had reconstructed the murder, Ron later retracted his testimony.
Ron, a 45-year-old taxi driver, lived near Tel Aviv with 23-year-old Marie Pisam, a French woman previously married to his son Benjamin, Rose’s father.
Benjamin divorced Marie about three years ago after he found out she was having an affair with his father, and today Ron and Pisam have two children together. - Agencies

This old man visits his doctor and after a thorough examination, the doctor tells him, "I have good news and bad news, what would you like to hear first?"

Patient: Well, give me the bad news first.

Doctor: You have cancer, I estimate that you have about two years left.

Patient: That's terrible! In two years, my life will be over! What kind of good news could you probably tell me, after this?

Doctor: You also have Alzheimer's. In about three months you are going to forget everything I told you.

That was the first case i was referring to.. OK, I don't understand it, but I can live with them "falling in love". But to take a innocent young child's life and then be so matter of fact about it, really pisses me off.

They deserve to be punished heavily.

Some women are simply not meant to be mothers, but lack of access to abortion and societal pressures make them keep children that they don't want, and the children end up paying the price.

The world is full of strange people. The first case is sad and the morons deserve to be punished heavily.

Some parents, as is evident in the second case cannot handle parenthood and need help. Some women suffer from post child birth depression..
