Hot pants land US woman in hot water
A woman was ordered to serve three days in jail after a judge found her in contempt of court for inappropriate dress.
Kirstie Arnold, 28, of Lancaster, Kentucky, was sent to the Boyle county jail after wearing short shorts during a court appearance on Monday before Garrard District Judge Janet Booth.
Booth had warned Arnold about her clothes in two previous court appearances, and in the last appearance had fined Arnold $50 (£25) for her attire. A court videotape of Monday's proceeding contains the following exchange:
"Why shouldn't I put you in jail for contempt today?" Booth asked. "I told you twice."
"I'm sorry," Arnold said.
"No, you're not," Booth said. "I told you twice. I even fined you for being in contempt. Why shouldn't I throw you in jail today? You apparently don't care about the court's orders."
"I forgot," Arnold said.
"How could you forget?" Booth said. "No, seriously, how could you forget? It's a complete disregard of court order. Complete. You should go to jail today, and you're going."
"Well, next time I won't wear shorts," Arnold said.
"I bet you won't," Booth said. And with that, Booth ordered her to serve three days of temporary detention "for disregard and disrespect for court proceedings".
Arnold declined to be interviewed yesterday. Booth could not be reached immediately for comment.
Arnold's next court appearance is scheduled for Monday in Garrard District Court. If she is still an inmate at that time, she will wear a bright yellow jail uniform

been sufficient! but the judge obviously thought otherwise!
Sorry, it was just stupidity.. The Judge warned her about "Inappropriate" dress.
To cap it all, she got into more trouble when she allegedly tried to conceal a drug from Lancaster police officer Allen Weston.

it is govern by rules and laws. She was fined not because of the "short shorts " that she wears but because she was already forewarned about the dress code inside the Judge court room. In that court room, the judge is the law, implementing discipline that is not unlawful. She deserves to go to jail but for me, three days is a little bit harsh. One to two days or a an immediate mandatory community service will do. Just to refresh her memory. Wonder what her case is?

in that she is trying to drum up publicity via lawsuit, civil liberties suit, interview on the TODAY show, book deal etc etc etc. I hate people like that.
You said it.. This is Kentucky, USA...
The woman is not playing with a full deck..
She shouldnt have been fined! That was her clothes money! Lol! Now, she only has a pair to use!-------------------------------------------------

Whats wrong with shorts? I see numerous negative comments about shorts from judgmental people on QL.
The only thing her shorts should do is make people roll their eyes or think different of her.
This is Kentucky USA after all, she has a rights as an American.
This does not warrant a jail sentence.
That's the sad thing, what is America coming to these days? The constitution is being disregarded.
At least she showed up for her court appearance on time.
That Judge has serious power control issues.

fat chicks in hot pants should always be put in jail.
It's just after any joke, you can put doubt in people's mind about whether it is true or not by saying "...in America" :-P
She is very thick .. (Nothing to do with being American by the way)
Perhaps she has no other clothes...
...she's obviously completely thick!
I think that may be a little harsh without knowing all the facts. Guess she won't do it again though.
Maybe you do need to teach thick people the hard way!
