Women will do that to you!

A WEALTHY businessman decapitated himself to spite his wife for their marriage split, an inquest heard yesterday.
Gerald Mellin, 54, tied a rope to a tree, wrapped the other end around his neck and got into his open-top Aston Martin DB7.

He then accelerated away into a main road at midnight — as motorists watched in horror.

Police found his headless body on the driving seat with his head in the back.

And witness Alison Anniah, who saw the vehicle go past, said: “It got my attention because it was going so slowly.

“As the car passed us I saw the body had no head.”

The mum-of-two told the inquest: “We had split up and had been to court.

“We met at a pub after the hearing and he opened the boot and said, ‘There’s my rope, that’s what I’m going to kill myself with’.

“I told him to grow up and give me the rope — but he just laughed.”

The day before he carried out his grim threat, Mirrielle was awarded an extra £100-a-week maintenance.

Mr Mellin, who owned a gym and sun-tanning centre — where his wife worked as a beautician — sent her a final text message saying: “Congratulations XXX.”

The pair had both been married before they wed in 2002, the inquest in Swansea heard.

But they split in 2007 and Mirrielle continued living in their luxury farmhouse in the village of Crumlin, South Wales.

She said: “Our marriage was horrendous. He wanted me to walk away from the farmhouse and the business with nothing.”

After Mr Mellin’s death near Swansea’s seafront, Mirrielle found that he had cancelled a life insurance policy.

She added: “He ran up an extortionate amount of debt. I’ve got to sell the farmhouse.”

A suicide note was found in Mr Mellin’s pocket. He had only a small amount of alcohol in his blood.

Verdict: Suicide.
