Is there any scuba diving club or group that organize diving trips?

BTW, where can I buy a plumb belt here in doha? - yes, I can grab a stone, but it is not exactly the same

Count me in.

I can't wait to get out on a dive! I got here about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Waiting to do my Rescue Diver and then Dive Master. Anyone with DSAC? I'm looking to go along to one of the meetings afetr Ramadan - I want to dive as much as possible.

Cheers :)

I just put an order in last Monday for some dive equipment from www.leisurepro.com in the US. It was here by Thursday thanks to the fine, fine folks at UPS (and after forking out 495QR for "legalization fees" to the gov't--I wonder where they would get revenue from if not from these legalization fees?)

Shipping was IMO, quite reasonable and the prices were great.

The course your referring to does not certify you it is usually only a day thing they give you the basics in the morning and take you for a limited dive in the arvo usually only down to a depth of 5 meters if open water, and is a one off deal. A full course is usually 4 full days of theory, plus and added 8 to 16hrs in the water depending on what system you learn with. Don't forget you also need a Dive Medical before you'll be allowed to dive beyond 5 m that's why its called an introductory course it gives you the taste for it, most course will be upwards of QR 3000 for certification.

"Your born, You Live, You Die, given this premise, one can conclude since we have no control over when we are born and when we die, the only thing that matters to us should be how we live, simple really?" Mis-Cat to her philosophy Lecturer.

I know some one here who is a DM and dives here after Ramadan I'm going to sort out my Dive status with him, just gotta transfer from NAUI to PADI so I can continue, to get my DM, so if you want will keep you posted on when that's happening and you can join us....

in Pearl Divers, for "discovering scuba diving"...

Think above 1,000 QAR.

700 for the course and diving, plus around 300 or 350 for equipment (choosing the cheap options).

My friedn says it is too much for only test LOL.

If anyone is interested, I will bring my equipment next week, so I would like to go diving after ramadan...

(I feel safer, if I know everyone has sugar in blood ;-)

Never got around to learning to dive 'properly' in Dubai, did it 20+ years ago in the UK but never qualified due to being 'taught' by a working diver, not an instructor.

Hoped to do it here as the coastline looks a lot more interesting & another way to make friends being a Doha newbie & all that.

Thanks.

I found Pearl Divers, it was not easy 'cause its crazy. They write the street names in different ways depending of the person!!!! But finally I found. It is near Doha Clinic (little before in the street if you come from Ramada).

It is a scuba diving shop and dive center. They gave me the bussiness card of a guy:

Abdullatif Al-Naemi

+974 589 55 75

[email protected]

www.scubalatif.com

It looks like they go to scuba diving each weekend.

Im checking prices and details, when I have something else I will share with you.

My colleague will come on 24th, so we will try on that friday-saturday - it will be his first time, so we will ask for "Sea Baptism" or "Discovering Scuba Diving" or whatever they call here in Qatar - it is just a little diving in very safe environment for people to check and to lose their fears.

Lets see...

InesM - vaya! una hispano-parlante. Y qué hace usted aquí tan lejos de casa? Se nos unirá usted a bucear? Experimentada buceadora, o como mi amigo, que quiere probar por primera vez?

Bahraini,

Im open water licensed too, but I have a friend that want to try just for first time to see if he likes. Maybe you can join us (when we find a suitable club :-)

There is a free diving shop in Souq, I dont know if you saw. There they gave me for scuba same number that novita noted: 444 95 53, but I found same problem than you. I called and nobody hang up. Maybe it is a bad month (too hot), maybe they are abroad in vacation, maybe I call always in the evenings... Ill try tomorrow in office time.

Novita,

you have to try Red Sea, Canary Islands (Spain), Australian Big Reef, Mexican Gulf... :-)

lot of places to check but I agree Thailand is absolutely wonderful!

bahraini ... i did scuba in my uni time. I am an open water diver with PADI. Thats how i met my husband. It was a good fun ... but unfortunately havent done it since i have a son.

I only dived in Indo and Thailand. People said if you been diving in that area, the Qatar diving site is nothing compare to there.
