Can I drink the tap water in Qatar?
By punkrox2k2 •
I'm moving to Qatar soon and wondered if the tap water is safe to drink. (I'm from the UK and probably have very little tolerance to water-borne bacteria). If not, is it at least safe to brush your teeth with etc?
Yes Perfectly safe to drink, if you regularly run your taps, however if you are susceptible to getting sick from things that you digest. I would suggest that the water is boiled or filtered from the tap (under sink filtration cartridge), as like many say it leaves the treatment plant okay, but the problems lie in the pipework, and storage tanks where water can sit for weeks and organisms/bacteria will grow within it.
Don't drink it! It's OK for brushing teeth, but use only bottled water even for cooking and making tea/coffee.
'Gulfa' is one the better bottled water brands, a lot of cheaper brands and bulk bottles (for water coolers) have a taste that safe water should not have...
try and tell us the result?,.... even bottled water here in qatar are not good for drinking......... forget about all news online,.... dont trust any one in regard to ur health
It's more like 20p than 80p
80p = approx QR5
Well, if you want the opinion of an official source, go to safewateronline.com. According to this website, Qatar ranks 4/5 for its tap water, which means:
"Main cities have generally safe water supplies, which are monitored and regularly tested by an independent board, but level of service of rural and small towns systems could be substandard. Prevalence of waterborne diseases is low."
So that's not as good as other Western countries like USA, UK, or Germany, though better than Saudi Arabia or Oman. I interpret that to mean that water is more than safe for brushing your teeth and cooking. As for drinking, it's probably totally safe as well, at least in Doha. If you still have a mental block against drinking it consider contacting a bottling company which will be the cheapest way to get it.
i work for a contracting company in which we have a plumbing division which also deals with water purification, filtration etc.. we have done a lot of research on the water being available in normal household and other places which is most commonly used for our basic needs. but talking about this (tap) water being pure.. well i would comment it is indeed pure, after all it is purified by a number of chemicals and toxicants.
but for sure this water is not healthy enough to drink or to use for any other cooking purposes.
anyhow, brushing with this water is not an issue.. because in that case the water is does not reaches your stomach.
but yeah, if your looking for purifying your tap water, it is possible. i know a product name "AQUA FREE" which is also passed and recommended by the Kahramaa authorities to purify the water. this specific filter is as small as a your palm but it has got seven membrane filters installed in it which purifies the water one after another, and unless the water doesn't gets completely purified it does not allows it to pass through it. the water filtered from this filter is as pure to even feed an infant.
thanking you.
hope the above information was of good use for you.

Re your reply Vince Marlo, I rather resent being called ignorant - that's like a teacher telling a child he's ignorant for never having been taught something. The only way to get an answer is to ask the question. *Okay, rant over*
My dear Qatar tap water is very safe to drink, and I am drinking for years,my friends who are drinking bottled water have already got kindey stones...due to high minerals...just use good water filter, boil and bring to be more safer side, clean ur tank every year atleast, try out when u arrive here it is better than UK tap water...
Guys please have respect don't insult each other...
Here is the deal... Water coming out the water factory is 100% drinkable but on the way to your house it might be in contact with old piping (they are planning to have all the piping fixed for drinkable water by 2010 or something) and you water tank is often not cleaned before installation and it might be dirty, which points out to the fact everone's water in Qatar differs so there is no 100% sure answer...
I recommend, drinking water from bottled sources, but like we all say 'it's not the best to drink it all the time, but you should use it for all cooking brushing your teeth and that kind of purpose...'
We use bottled water for drinking purpose and for making juices and wherever plain water is in use and the tap water filtered twice and further poured it into PUREIT ( Hindhustan Lever LTd Product)and filtered one for all cooking , tea, cofee etc in short anything which requires boiling.
As of now no infections and problems due to that .... past seven years in qatar now .... until 3 years ago we used to use the filtered water for drinking too but only after boiling the filter water .... but then got some info dat the tap water contains lot of minerals which are not required for us .. well dont know how true ... just taht we got carried away thinking prevention is better started using bottled water for drinking purpose.
first of all you will find a difference between bottled and tap water bottled tastes better secondly my son got sick from tap water although we used to use a filter so i personally advise you not to take the risk
preffer botteled water not the tap water
On drink tap water after it has boiled. Never Directly from the Tap.
My Dear
there is no problem if u drink tap water. i am at home cooking all types of food by tap water including making tea as well. i never feel any problem of it. To be more honest with u, install one filter unit near the tap water at ur residence will be better. this filter unit is available in all super markets. Nothing to worry at all. Govt is taking much care of supplied water. Even u must know that we are paying more water bill than Electricity and Telephone per month. Take care good luck
tap water the most safest water in qatar.dont worry if it is necessary u can attach a multy filter.it will never make a problem for our health.very healthy water.
I used to work for a water treatment company in qatar and as far as i know Qatar has one of the world's best water purification plant and this water meets the standard as per indicated by WHO and the disolved solids in water which are recomended it has all that and if you read carefully on the botteled water you will find on that something written as TDS which means total dissolved solids. In tap water here TDS is between 130 to 180 depends on areas which is good for drinking but i totally agree with pwb78 that water is stored in tanks which are mostly on roof so it is not very safe for drinking. So the best thing is to buy bottled water for drinking and cooking purpose and yes you can use tap water for brushing teeths it has no harm in that.
I drink many times and nor problem so far...but if in doubt buy bottled water.
Normally tap water met the WHO specification.
install filter bottel and connect it from the tap..
use this to drink and cook
you are so ignorant if you still dont know the health risk if you will drnk tap water... anyway dont drink unsafe water if u want to stay long and alive. Be safe!
hey,
it is safe to brush with the normal tap water but unsafe to drink it.
if you would want drinking water you would have to buy minrel bottle water which you get from stores btu the good thing is....its quite cheap...one 2 littre bottle is about 80p.
hav fun bye.
Pls dont drink the tap water. Drink only bottled water.
This is debated all the time. Water people says "yes," but after is sits in the huge, hot tank on your roof or out back, not many folks want to drink it. We use bottled for drinking and cooking. Never gotten sick from teeth brushing.
as advise dont drink , no comments , dont ask why
