Hey frnd....don't ever think of it. But yes if you've tons on waste money lying around, then go do it. Apart from money, there is whole lot of god damn paper work waiting for you. I was reading abt car imports to India the other day and fell sick of it. Good luck!
Yes its possible 4 u 2 import ur car bac 2 India, just tht u end up payin 48% as customs duty (u cud avoid dis if u hav any1 in customs or u hav an uncle who is either de CM of the state or MLA of de country). More over, do u really think its worth it havin send across a car frm here or anywhere 2 India when u hav 2 change the dash-board? and den pay duty & worst of all... if de car breaks down, u end up waiting 4 spare parts like 6months??? Well.. all is possible if u had a company running 2000cr profit annually.
Why you need all these hassles? If you are planning to export your secondhand car to India, please don't do it. Sell it off here at a competitive price. If you are planning to settle in India, you can buy brand new / used cars very easily these days and banks like ICICI, HDFC are very generous offering car loans. If you are fancy about international brands, we almost all the brands in the market in India. If you have family, go for Toyota Innova, its amazing indeed. Wish you good luck.
Murali.. first you need to spend on changing the dashboard.. and then u know how indian customs are.. they will just make up somethin to get money from u.. and they will not car how many months ur car is standing there.. many ppl do this... but havent seen anybody importing cars to india anymore..
No unfortunately you cannot for the following reasons:
1) The roads here are right hand sided while in India the roads are left hand sided. The customs say they do not allow import of cars which are the other way round but I have seen a few cars in India with the opposite side steering wheel.
2) The car cannot be more that 2 years old.
And the custom duty is 100%, so you have to pay the full value of the car. I suggest google Indian import duites on cars.

If it is your own car:
