Cost of living is decent almost every where in Canada. But in bigger cities like Toronto, you have to spend good amount of time on commuting. I had a co-worker who used to drive 100 KM one way every morning. But if you move to smaller city every thing is nice and easy. In Toronto you can easily rent a 3 bedroom apartment for $1200 CAD. From my experience what I have seen, getting a job in Canada is not difficult if you know what you're applying for. In addition, you will get free health care.Same time, it is little challenging for new immigrants to get used to with the culture and weather. Recently I went to Doha for an interview, I saw people enjoy a very relaxed life there. But in Canada, less time for relaxation. I love this country, no racism at all.

Cheers

Very true QS, and a lot of lawyers are taking advantage of people who want to immigrate and are not eligable. The lawyers are telling them they will assist them in getting their points up. What a shame. _____________________________________________________

Amoud.. that’s what exactly i say...again. Your husband is doing a Family Class immigration, and Abu Dhabi is the only office responsible for it. If you do a Skilled worker class immigration, you will be dealing with the office in UK ,OR the office in the country of your origin. So Syrian might apply in Syria, and so on... I know one guy, he had a dual citizenship, one of them was Chili. He chose to apply through immigration office in Chili. It took him... 6 month to finish the immigration process…

And that’s what I also said: I wouldn’t recommend to go through office in Syria as it might take you forever… although the immigration rules are changed… now if your application is not proceeded within 1 year, they return it to you…

om Maui, no one lawyer cannot "help". He chose clients who are qualified by default, and he is just handling the case in a professional way. No one lawyer cannot 'help' to someone who is NOT qualified.

My immigration lawywer/consultant is based in Canada. He is originally from Lebanon. He's helped many of my Arab friends in Qatar before, and they have already migrated there.

The regulations are changing fast though. PM me if you want his contact details.

QS, my husband is Syrian and didnt have that option as his country of residence is Qatar so they directed him to Abu Dhabi.... you dont want to submit it there anyway trust me :)

Red Puppy,

since when "Half of the Canadian population speaks French"?? Quebec is the only totally french speaking province. Some french-speakers live in Manitoba and New Brunswick... all together about 22%.. do not mislead ppl...

Amoud, i guess the immigration officer cannot be reach that easy in order to avoid "wasta"..this is Canada, all these wasta things do not really apply there... if everyone as per like Justmoi's suggestion will "go and see what they say", it will be a big mess there. Web site is quite clear. Just apply and wait, instead of "go and see".

And a little clarification. Immigration office in Abu Dhabi deal with the Family Class immigration and tourist visas to canada. Office in UK is responsible for all other types of immigrations for residents in qatar. but if you are syrian you have a choice to submit your application in damascus as well... but wouldn't reccommend anyone to do so..

Justmoi, The embassy in Damascus is the Middle Eastern Headquarters and in no way deals with any issues from Qatar. Also, the London office is a representative, meaning that a majority of interviews required for immigration take place in London. Now, the London office travels to Abu Dhabi and conducts its Middle eastern interviews from there.

Hello,

Imigration Canada changed its policy recently. Now only people of 32 categories are eligible.E.g. Now a software developer is not eligible, but software project manager is. Before the range was wide.

Before applying, please make sure that you have qualifying points.

Am I eligible? : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/tool/index.asp

You do not need to appoint a lawyer. The process is pretty straight forward and not so easy. It will not speed up processing time or anything like that. Canadian govt truly treats everybody equally. After applying you will be able to check your status online. I found a warning note on the immigration website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/information/representative/index.asp

Important Faqs: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/immigrate/skilled/index.asp

Main site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

I am really proud of Canada. No racism. Good driving habit. Good health Care System. Finally we have peace.

Cheers

Australia

Maybe I should open a business of lawn care services for those who do not cut the grass or do not keep their backyard free from under brush. Maybe, it helps curve the burning of those forest fires.

Canada

Reasons for not migrating to Canada.

I got enough with Taxes in America, instead of worrying with higher Canadian Taxes.

They could keep that socialist system and that universal medical generic stuff.

I always wonder, why they are still holding alliances with that old woman.

Why not rename Canada, 'Le Republique de Franchise Canadiens,' Half of the Canadian population speaks French.

Why Hollywood has a large amass of popular actors/actresses, famous singers, and comedians from Canada?

Anyhow, Hollywood is notorious in honoring Oscars to mice and penguins.

From better to worse, I heard that the Prime Minister of Canada is Gay. Is that affirmative?

I don't need to migrate to Canada, I could walk over or drive with my valid license in hand.

Anyhow, Canada is not perfect, four positive things that Canada has in its favor are fishing, hunting, good beer and strange wild ladies. Lets not forget the free and the open dope smoker absurdity attitude. Not most of them, but the great majority.

My sisters husband is American and immigrated to Canada and so did my husband. They dont answer questions over the phone, nor help on applications etc as it would show bias, especially if the conversations were construed as friendly (god forbid a Canadian embassy worker was ever friendly). They wont even give names in official emails, faxes or letters, just the intials of your case worker as some people try to bribe their case worker once they get a name or phone extension. Some even stalk them (screwed up huh).

My wonderful embassy exists to enable a select few workers to be as rude as hell, extremely uncooperative and treat you like general shit and have the justification to do so because they are "the" embassy. Heck they dont even have to answer your questions even when directed to them in the manners they request... Call, they tell you to send a fax and they will answer in 2 days, after a week, call to follow upi your fax question and they will tell you to send a fax to enquire about your fax and so on.... ____________________________________________________

Actually justmoi, you are wrong.

The embassy in Kuwait deals with passport matter, the embassy in Abu Dhabi deals with visa and immigration so you would be dealing with the embassy in Abu Dhabi not Kuwait.

The embassy has protocol not to assist in these matters. As Qatarisum said, they will direct you to the website. The Canadian embassy does have websites for all its embassies all you have to do is search it. As for immigration it is all through one office in Canada (in Sydney NS) so the CIC page applies to everyone everywhere in the world. They answer no immigration matters over the phone, nor do they assist in filling applications etc.

Qatarisun, I have been told we now have an Ambassador here so I assume we will have an embassy in the near future, although I cant imagine what assistance they will be other than saving us DHL costs.

the Canadian Embassy in the Middle East is represented by the Kuwait office.

By the way Qatar how can they send me to their website when they don't have one over here?

Forgive me for using the term 'go to'. I found MY Embassy over here very helpful. Still do. 'Go to' does not mean, actually physically go there, I should have said, ask their advice on line.

you should just go for it. I know there are people that advertise as people that can help you. I would skip that as it could be expensive.

Go to the Embassy, see what they say and take it from there. Good luck and I hope you get to wherever you want to be x

I think you are better to try a local lawyer if you are going to Canada. I dont advise hiring someone you have never met, nor a person whom you cannot have a live conversation with in the event there are some issues with your case.

I dont think you need a "good" lawyer, all they do is apply on your behalf. There is one on the Mezzanine floor of the Intercontinental, Karl and Associates. He is efficient and a nice fellow.

samsam, it's not that easy as you think... to fill out the application, yes, it couldn't be a problem..even some people are struggling with choosing the right forms... there are tens and tens of different forms on the web site..and if you send the wrong one, the file won't be open..

..and then later, when the matter comes to the gathering and sending supporting documents, trust me people get completely lost for some reason, and might miss a due date.. then their file get closed automatically..

hey hey Harry99

they are going to CANADA!!!! and should leave their nationalism (if any ) HERE! Otherwise they won’t feel comfortable there, and in case of obvious expression of your thoughts and feelings they might be deported…

you don't have to do it through the agency/lawyer... they charge a lot...

.. you can even do it by yourself...

...or, if you don't want to waste a time and you want to be on the safer side, all you need is some person who can help you at the initial stage and to explain to you the proccess and to help you with some papers.
