Canada wants British workers to emigrate

Perhaps the time is right for me to experience the extreme climate, moose hunting, going down a waterfall in a barrel, watching left handed polar bears wandering around on ice flows and also mingling with the local Indians...

CANADA - eh!

Canada is trying to attract skilled British workers to emigrate to the country to boost the economy and population.

Officials hope that superior public services and a stable economy will tempt people who have lost patience with the soaring cost of living in Britain, and the state of hospitals and schools.

Hector Goudreau, Minister of Employment and Immigration in Alberta, has been sent across the Atlantic to encourage workers who fit skills and experience criteria to apply for a fast-tracked visa.

The scale of the project has been compared to the assisted passage scheme which saw over a million 'Ten Pound Poms' migrate to Australia after the Second World War. It will raise fears that Britain could be hit with a 'brain drain' if significant numbers take up the offer.
The Canadians are hoping to recruit GPs, teachers, nurses, electricians, carpenters, engineers, construction workers, management consultants, and cardiac and diabetic specialists, although anyone of any age can apply.

Mr Goudreau, who has been in Britain for a week, said: "Somebody from London might be able to sell their small flat and come to Alberta where they can buy a detached house with a huge back yard and huge front yard for the same amount.

"The cost of living is considerably less than in the UK. Our salaries are comparable or even higher, so anyone who moves over would be able to make money and set some aside."

He went on: "We are looking at attracting 50,000 foreign workers within the next year alone.
"There is beautiful scenery, the health care system is second to none in the world and our educational system is second to none in the world. We have some of the lowest business taxes, there is no province sales tax on goods."

I think QS penned it before moving to Qatar..

Dear Diary

Aug. 12 - Moved to our new home in Canada. I am so excited. It's so beautiful here. The mountains are so majestic. Can hardly wait to see them with snow covering them.

Oct. 14 - Canada -- it is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves have turned all colors and shades of red and orange. Went for a ride through the beautiful countryside and saw some deer. They are so graceful. Certainly they are the most wonderful animals on earth. This must be paradise. I love it here!

Nov. 11 - Remembrance Day. Deer season starts soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such a gorgeous creature. Hope it snows soon. I love it here!

Dec. 2 - It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed with white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won). When the snow plough came by we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place. I love Canada!

Dec. 12 - More snow last night. The snow plough did his trick again to the driveway. I love it here.

Dec. 19 - More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work. It's beautiful here but I'm exhausted from shoveling. F#cking snow plough.

Dec. 22 - More of that white shit fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands and a sore back from shoveling. I think the snow plough hides around the corner until I'm done shoveling the driveway. Asshole.

Dec. 25 - Merry F#cking Christmas! More frigging snow. If I ever get my hands on the sonovabitch who drives the snow plough, I swear I'll kill the bastard. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt the f#cking ice.

Dec. 27 - More white shit last night. Been inside for three days now except for shoveling out the driveway after that snow plough goes through every time. Can't go anywhere, the car's stuck in a mountain of white crap and it is so frigging cold. The weatherman says to expect another 10 inches of the crap again tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10 inches is?

Dec. 28 - That f#cking weatherman was wrong. We got 34 inches of the crap this time. At this rate it won't melt before summer. The snow plough got stuck up in the road and that bastard came to my door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him that I had already

broken six shovels shoveling out all the crap he had pushed into my driveway, I damn near broke my last one over his f#cking head.

Jan. 4 - Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food and on my way back a damned deer ran in front of the car. Did about $3,000 damage to the car. Those beasts should be killed. The bastards are everywhere. Wish the hunters had

exterminated them all last November.

May 3 - Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rusted out from all that salt they put all over the roads.

May 10 - Moved to Doha. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever want to live in such a God forsaken place as Canada!

My best friend has this beautiful cottage, a nice woody house out of Toronto... in the summer time everything is blossoming there.. a lot of flowers in the woods, berries, mashrooms.. just go around the house for half an hour and you bring home full basket of mushrooms for the dinner… we ride yacht on the river down to the beautiful lake.. at night we always set the fire in the backyard…

..it is amazing there in the winter time as well.. snow in the woods is pure white, covering the tops of the trees, like big snow hats, glittering in the sunshine… and quietness.. complete silence.. you can hear crackle of the snow under your boots…

..you can also ride a snowbike…and in the evening everybody are sitting in the house around the fireplace, having some nice dinner…

amazing stuff! I really really miss it!!!

it IS a wide open space.. veeeeery wide open space... When Mila will come back from Canada vacation (her hubby took her there), she hopefully will share her feelings about it.. i saw couple of her pics where she is sitting on the top of some mountain, in front of huge deep canyon… the slopes of the canyon are covered with green, and the mountains around the canyon have same “snow hats” on their tops… and bright sun in the hight blue sky …she looks sooo small against this background of the mountains and canyon… amazing pic…

"Somebody from London might be able to sell their small flat and come to Alberta where they can buy a detached house with a huge back yard and huge front yard for the same amount.".. and i would add: "Somebody from Qatar might be able to sell their small flat and come to Alberta where they can buy a detached house with a huge back yard and huge front yard for the same amount."

speaking of "extreme climate"... it is not much more 'extreme' than in Qatar... and it definitely much healthier than in London...
