Television Channels

So what is the best tv network to sign up with in Qatar?

I am most interested in movie and sports channels, and would like as much North American content as possible. I assume there isn't a way to get NBC, ESPN or any Canadian channels??
I've heard from different people that there are satellites other than qtel, showtime and orbit that offer hundreds of channels. is this true?

just throwing it out there, hit me back with any knowledge...

We got showtime when we first got here a year ago. It had Discovery and History channels, but then they went away after 5 days. Come to find out, you have to contact Discovery and pay extra to have access to that channel through showtime. At least that's how we understood it. So we dropped Showtime and got Orbit. Orbit has Discovery, Discovery Science, History channel , Animal Planet. It also has Orbit news channel that carries the "Today show" and other US Programming. They have other channels, I can't remember what they are called that carry programs like Friends, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and other US shows. It's only like $41 a month. We are happy with it, but like Ragnarock Raider said, some of the programming is about a year or so back, but it's US programming. Hope that helps.

The hundreds of satellite channels are mostly Arabic...your best bet for north american content is the showtime packages....premium or platinum gets you most of the series and movies from back home (well the ones sindicated for the middle east anyways...and they are a year behind...but that's probably the best you can get here).

Good luck....stay safe all.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?
