World population fast approaching seven billion mark

New York, June 20: There will be seven billion people in the world by 2012, putting a huge strain on natural resources, according to an estimate released by the US Census Bureau.

About 300 million will be added in four years to the current world population of 6.7 billion people. It took about 13 years to add the seventh billion.

By comparison, the number of people didn't even reach one billion until 1800, Carl Haub, a demographer at the US Population Reference Bureau, has been quoted as saying in the report released Thursday.

The population didn't reach two billion until 130 years later. While the third billion took about 30 years to add, reaching the figure in 1959, the next three billion were added at a fast trot, taking about 40 years.

"You can easily see the effect of rapid population growth in developing countries," Haub said.

China, the most populous country, has 1.33 billion people, followed by India at 1.15 billion. The US ranks third with 304 million people.

Haub ascribed the population explosion following World War II to medical and nutritional advances in developing countries. Cultural changes, like more women in developing countries going to school and joining the work force, were slowing the growth rate, though it remained high in many countries.

The global population is growing by about 1.2 percent per year while the figure for India is higher at 1.6 percent and China has controlled it to 0.6 percent. India's population will reach 1.5 billion in 2025, to come at par with China's, and will outnumber China by 2050.

The US Census Bureau projects the global growth rate will decline to 0.5 percent by 2050. It updates projections each year on a variety of global demographic trends, including fertility and mortality rates and life expectancy.

US life expectancy has surpassed 78 years for the first time, the National Centre for Health Statistics announced last week.

The new census report comes amid food shortages and record high oil prices, fuelled in part by growing demand from expanding economies in China and India.

Expert demographers offer no consensus on how many people the Earth can sustain. William Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank, was quoted as saying that it depends on how well people manage the earth's resources.

Planet X is a hypothesis and the people who go for it go for aliens and UFOs, Atlantis and the Dogon, too. And the Nasca lines are landing spots for extraterrestrial spaceships. Gosh.

what about the possibility of another planet or something coming close to earth?

IMO, I believe that is the more likely case. I found some stuff about a so-called planet called "Nibiru" (it has other names, but I call it 'Death Star') that has been pretty much hidden from the general public by NASA. Honestly, I know there has to be some other sort of celestial body going out there. Nibiru is said to be about 4-8 times the size of Earth, so pretty much bigger than Jupiter. I don't know it's current location though, and it also mentioned that Antarctica is the only place to actually see this planet right now.

Nibiru is supposedly a dead or failed star, since it has been noted as a Brown Dwarf, so.. things could get messy. Planet X Facts (http://xfacts.com/xnews/index.html)was one site I read this stuff on. Nibiru was also mentioned on this site as well.

I'm still highly skeptical right now, but if this.... planet/star truly is real, it really could wipe out the better part of the population of Earth. I'm not saying it's the end of the world, I would just.. kinda say it's more like the end of current humanity as we see it.

I think that about ends my take on the matter... 2012 is highly debatable at the moment, and the gov. does like to cover things up fairly well

Yes the Mayans did predict 2012, but they did not specifically say the world would end. Their calander simply ends on this year. A little creepy.

Well.. to really understand the time we're in you have to be in the generation witch lived mostly before 1999. You remember everything being in order.. the world was fine as it was, nothing changed much. But now more & more of us are starting to realize within ourselfs that somethin's happening atm. We're not calm about the world.. stuf IS happening to our conscious, we feel more and more uneasy about the certainty allmost everythin.

That's because the year 1999 marked the end of the last 19.7 year cycle. Now this period is only 360 days. More and more is possible now, in 2012 it will be 20 days.. until, after 21 december 2012 everythin will be possible in every moment...

As the maya said.. the prepared ones will leave their bodies and transform to live their new heaven, the others will die.

My advice is only that you let everything happen.. dont resist it. As more and more happens, you'll probably feel like you're starting to lose your mind..

If you're at peace with yourself, you'll know what I'm talking about...

"nature will find a way". (Jurassic Park). Mass extinction was and is a re-ocurring event. Nature is more efficient than Hitler. The 2004 December tsunami managed to kill more than 200 000 in a matter of seconds. The current food crisis will do its share. Wars, of course, are always a good bet, but rather inefficient unless nuclear weapons are used. And there are epidemics at our hands, because we can create them in our labs. I don't think the world will ever be overpopulated. It is already unable to supply food for all.

7 reasons the world will end in 2012

.

Scientific experts from around the world are genuinely predicting that five years from now, all life on Earth could well finish. Some are saying it'll be humans that set it off. Others believe that a natural phenomenon will be the cause. And the religious folks are saying it'll be God himself who presses the stop button...

.

1. Mayan Calendar

The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things:

Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and Sacrificing Virgins.

Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well.

.

2. Sun Storms

Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012

.

3. The Atom Smasher

Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

.

4. The Bible says...

If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn't bad enough, religious folks are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.

.

5. Super Volcano

Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

.

6. The Physicists

This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

.

7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG!

We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

Note: This was posted just for a general chit chat.

The thread was not meant to scare anyone and I personally believe that the world is not going to end in 2012.

Dont worry about population...

Wars and proxy wars (Cultivating Terrorist) have been found and preached as a anti-dote to population growth.

Hitler tried gas-chambers but found them to be very expensive. They also tried making the victims stand in a straight line and shoot with a single bullet. But doing away with the corpse was another problem.....

....until religious terrorism was invented... it funds itself and people who die are taken care of by their kin....

And if the sun doesn't do it, this is going to happen:

The Milky Way is expected to merge with the neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy, which will eat up our Solar System.
