Muslims thank Aussies
Teachers, parents and local officials at the Ulee Lheue Islamic School, rebuilt with Australian aid, applauded when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd publicly thanked his predecessor for committing $1 billion in aid to Indonesia following the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004.
"Prime Minister Howard's decision to support the rebuilding of this community was the right decision – the right decision for Australia, the right decision for Indonesia and the right decision for Aceh," Mr Rudd said after inspecting the new classrooms and playground.
Mr Rudd, who visited Aceh in the weeks after the devastating tsunami, which killed 167,000 people, left 500,000 homeless and washed away 800km of coastline around the Indonesian province, said the area was sacred ground.
"It is difficult not to remember the terrible scenes of that time," Mr Rudd said.
"I remember seeing so many people's lives so tragically affected – so much destruction, so much devastation, so much sadness.
"We are on sacred ground."
Wait a minute!!! A week or so ago Aussies were considered racist on this forum because of a decision not to build a Muslim school due to, wait for it.............environmental issues and geograhical location.
How quickly people forget.
Saw the irony..... Just people are here to make money and once their wants are satisfied they disregard everything...... Whether the person is an American/ Oriental/it boils downt to the same issue
I've never fit into boots in my life.

alexa, spot on thank you. i don't get what i want so blame everyone.
pair of stilettos are coming your way! lol
the problem then was some people saw it as a religious issue and not a planning issue.
you had to see the racist comments on SOME of the articles. it all just added up to the already suspicious mindsets.
but heres a nice gesture!
