Moving to Doha - A Few Questions...

trueblues
By trueblues

Hello,

I'm moving to Doha this year from the UK with an allowance of 50,000QAR for furniture and 12,000QAR per month for accomodation. Could anyone please tell me how much furniture this would buy and at what standard?

Additionally, any information on accommodation standards in general would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

QR500 to fill up - here in Doha it cast me less than QR83 to fill my Hummer H2 - which does 7.9 mpg!!!

If you're living life on the edge, you've got too much room.

I stay in Birmingham, that's less that 2 hours from most places in England! I have noticed traffic is worse hee now since I left in January though.

...and it cost me over 560 Riyals to fill up my medium sized car lats week. :-(

we landed in London yesterday morning ... our flight to New Castle delayed for 30 mins because waiting some VIP to turn up from Glasgow. Plenty of security man with gun ... did not realize that Blair sat in front of us till we landed in New Castle airport.

We off to London on Monday ... taking son to Legoland ... Then off to Paris and Barcelone back to the UK for 2 days and back to sandpit Doha in the mid of July.

Nice to breath in the sandless air though ... lol.

PS: trueblues ... excuse for the hijack. If you have any question about Qatar feel free to PM or email me. Although i wont be able to online regularly till mid of July :-)

By trueblues• 14 Jun 2008 23:17

Gonna do that for sure. Both our boys are set up in the UK and we are planning to make our time in QT as being a new adventure and a change - hopefully at a much slower pace.

When you come to Qatar bring your sense of humour. Plenty of them ...

Don't set too high expectation , so you wont get disappointed.

Another thing ... dont compare the life in Qatar with the life in your home country. Take it as exploring a new experience ...

With that kind of attitude, you set to live as an expat :-)

Thanks for that, will try the classifieds online as we are still in UK at the moment and expect to be Doha around September.

'Certain Attitudes?' - They dont bother us because like you, life is too short to get wound up about things you cant influence. Have a good weekend and thanks again.

Have a look at the For rent in the classifieds to get an idea of prices of villas. What you are describing falls more in this category. prices as you will see are high.

As for life here,.....well only been in country for two weeks and it is still a learning curve for me. So far enjoying it on the whole exept for certain attitudes. But to each their own.

Just got here myself, and I have been able to furnish a two bedroom flat well within you allowance range. As Nadt said, places like Home Centre are the best to use.

As for your rent,it will depend on what kind of accomadation you are looking for.

You can find average furniture in Home Centre with your allowance...

For accomation 12,000 will get you a good two to three bedrom apartment in Doha. We are renting a new three bedroom fully furnished apartment for 9000. It depends on the area you want to live, but 12,000 is good in my opinion..
