Al Khor

Hi,
The wife and I are moving to Qatar in August and will be living up at Al Khor. Does anybody have any pointers for us before we get there...all advice and tips are welcome.
Is there much to do there or is it all centered in Doha?
Cheers, Napsyboy.

I love Al Khor. In fact I want to build my home there. Al Khor is great to live and then just drive off to Doha :)

do you have the website for AKC? ...cant seem to find it myself.

Starting to have second thoughts on going to Al-Khor...especially if theres morris dancers....thats the reason we're leaving UK!!!

Given that information you'll probably love AKC. Have you looked at their web site. As a community it is the best in Qatar. Best sport facilities, in community food etc. AKC is very well suited for exploring the north of Qatar. Only issues are remoteness from the "action" in Doha but sounds like a liitle one will take your attention.

Never assume anything about accomodation in Qatar, get confirmation of where you'll be. AKC is pretty full - about 6,000 residents.

You may even join the morris dancers!!! if they are still going.

Bring a LOT of sunscreen because it's scorching in the summer!

Other than that you'll be fine, AlKhor is too quiet for my taste but as someone up there said it's quickly developing and is expected to rival Doha soon :)

Hope you have an awesome time here!

My wife will be working at the international school, so i assume we are in Al-Khor community as we have been given accommodation. We are a British/Australian couple, enjoy sport and the outdoors...and basically counting down the days till August. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'll lived in both.

I cursed Al-Khor for being boring with limited social (ok if your a teacher) and curse Doha for the traffic. A lot depends on nationality / pastimes / place of work / expectations.

On balance, Doha wins it for me.

If your in Al-Khor COmmunity things are better then being stuck finding your own villa etc.

..for the replies.

Its good to get some different points of view. The quiet life may not be a bad thing as there is a little one on its way and will probably take up most of our time.

Thanks again.

if you like to nap while waiting hopelessly at an intersection, then Doha is the place for you. If you like to enjoy the lovely beaches, then Khor is the place

Personally, I prefer living in Al Khor. Very nice place. Could be boring coz of the limited options there.

But. Keep in mind. The city is fast growing and developing. Besides, it is some 25 miles away from DOha.
