Everything in bbay is location location location.Travelling takes quite some time.Look/Ask for accommodation which is as close to your workplace.Again this applies only to downtown. If your workplace is in Andheri/Malad – do not stay out there – choose Bandra/Khar/Juhu. Stick to South bbay or the Western Suburbs and you’ll be fine.
Work ethics in bbay are really bad ie.We have spoilt the work environment by working really long hours – tht coupled with a long work commute makes quite a day.
Best solution for the above – my CA practice was on the 1st floor of the apt while I stayed on the 5th floor. My commute was by the elevator. One min travel time. Ofcourse not many have this luxury. Imp tip – get a good CA else to manage your taxes and finances.
Get a driver, housekeeper, cook, security at a negligible cost. Get a massage everyday . hehe. Live like a KING. You won’t get this luxury in the west/oz.
Bbay is hot and humid – most times of the year – get the cottons that u already have but don’t buy any – bbay is amazing for shopping – bargain, bargain, bargain on the streetvendors. Dharavi for leather (all get exported), carpets in colaba, chor bazaar antiques, etc etc
Enjoy the multiple number of restaurants/pubs/nightclubs. EAT EAT EAT DRINK DRINK DRINK. Mamma Mai. Some of the best restaurants in the world. Have some kingfisher beer – it’s a sweet drop. You’ll have a great time here partying and grubbing. Do not drink and drive – bbay has become almost zero tolerance-You won’t be deported like Qatar but you’ll hv to spend one night in jail. Drink only bottle water outside – filter the water from the taps (you cannot drink water directly from the taps – many do so but they have hardcore bbay immune systems).
There are schools which have IB curriculum – American School, Dirubhai Ambani School etc. So no issues on ur kids schooling.
Please do not give anything to beggars – there are a lot of them and they’ll make up stories – do not give anything. You are spoiling Mumbai. Ask them to work with you and they refuse. Instead there are lot of NGO’s who take care of poor kids including their education. Invest in a poor kids education. You’ll change a life.
Given you just a gist, but to cover that Traffic problem – you have to get a driver – you can get one for QR 300-400 per month. (around Rs 4,000+).If you can excuse the problems with a big city - pollution, dirt and people - you'll have a good time. With the salaries so high the middle east will find it difficult to attract talent from Bombay.
I think you will love it..(if you can distance yourself from the poverty).
There are good schools and for expats , housing is available in good areas. the rents from what i gather can vary. My friend was paying about USD 3,500 per month for a fully furnished three bedrromed place in a good area. Domestic help and drivers are cheap. I'm sure you'll enjoy it..
You will love Mumbai the Juhi Beach, the Marine drive, Chowpati nice places reallyyyyyy............ and most importantly you get Dal and Roti for Rs.1....
Mumbai: Is a place where you can live the way you want if you have money you can spend it you want to save money you can. There are all kind of life styles in Mumbai it all depends on how you want to live if you are in the software field I hope you would be going to Navi Mumbai. Navi Mumbai has very good compounds which have swimming pools and Gyms as well and they are cheaper also. You have multiplexes and you have shopping malls in every area. You have trains utpo 1:00 AM in the morning and the again at 5:00 AM the service starts. This is the cheapest and easiest way to go places in Mumbai.
Bangalore: To expensive the rents are high in all the areas. Only good point in Banaglore is the weather. You have only some places where you can go like Forum, Garuda Mall and residency road.
If you are white(no offense please) Bombay will defintely be expensive. I'm not talkin abt racism... Its just that most people who sell things will think of u as somone with a lot of money to spend. See Bombay is a plcae where people live with Rs.500 per month as well as more than Rs.5,00,000 per month. Depends on what kinda person u are. Also Bangalore is a cleaner city than Bombay.
I dream of a better tomorrow where Chickens can cross the Road without having their motives questioned - Unknown
Ok after living in Bangalore u may not like Bombay that much coz Bangalore is kinda laid back and not as busy and crowded like Bombay. Besides nothing can beat Bangalore weather. Its just amazing. Bomaby will be hot and humid. Bangalore is a much smaller place compared to Bombay. But Bombay is more metropolitan. I guess the rents will be higher but apart from that Bombay is much more cheaper than Bangalore.
