Problem re Housing/Husband with company

I have been in Qatar for about 4 weeks now... I am a married Australian and my husband was already working here before I came here.

I was offered a job when I was in Australian as Office manager for a Canadian company although the President is Qatari so I am under his sponsorship.
The general manager that hired me asked me that I come live with her until my Residence Permit coming through, which I agreed too.

She also assured me that my husband could come over anytime and stay etc. But now I am here is making me keep it like a secret from Qatari sponsor I am married and that my husband does not come over here... Although this Qatari is very liberal, like he drinks etc. Because if I knew there were going to be all these issues about him, I don't think I would have come here... why should I keep my husband a secret?

What's the big deal? He's not my boyfriend he is my husband of 2 years...
Also now I am nervous once my Residence Permit comes through they will not allow me to live with my husband etc.

AEB85, I'm sorry, I don't know about any rules/regulations regarding housing allowance..in my company it is that way, they either give you accommodation or you can find yourself something and they pay the rent. They have a certain amount which is mentioned in the contract. If you have a rent that is above this amount, you pay the difference out of your your own pocket, if the rent is less than the allowance, they only pay the actual rent. That's the company policy...but sorry, no idea about general rules or laws.

AS suggested, wait for the RP and then join Hubby, If it is not a secret, why the conditions? If your hubby here, whats the problem? At the end of the day all will have to come out so be a littlle patient, and use the time to try and find out EXACTLY where you stand with your managers/company.

Good luck

Paula1 - I have heard that if you don't want to accept company provided accommodation they have to give you an allowance, do you know much that normally is?

Yes, I'm sure it's hard for you to be without someone you love nears you. It was me back 2 years ago when my husband joined the company here in Qatar, but fortunately we can go together again after all the visa processing is done and thorough.

Housing allowance of QR 3000 is not much - I know that in some companies you get for example QR 8000 when you're single, and once you're married and your partner is also employed, you get only 50% of the housing allowance as they assume you will share with your partner...

I am already here in Doha Vivo Bonito.

The President knows I am married, I told him when I met him... like my General Manager will not let me tell the President that my husband comes overs here to visit me... I just don't understand why it is a big deal he visits me if we are married?

So I guess I should just wait till no RP comes through!!

Thank you for your replies.

It's hard though not being able to be with my husband in evenings, like I want to cook for him etc. Be a wife!

u dont need to ask for whatever any visa... just an RP as usual visa granted to an employee. your husband has actually the same visa as with you once u have yours. both of you has different sponsors... so let it be...

at both with your husbands choice, u may live together and fulfill each of your duties as per each of your sponsors contract, respectively.

i reckon, keep your patience wait for the RP and then speak with the powers that be about your housing allowance. Not that much happens, once you are here you got to along with the contract that you have signed.

But so long as your hubby is here, chill, its only a matter of time.

o my my... let me try to clarify first.. how come the President dont know your marital status on the very first place? was not disclosed in your CV? anyways... obviously you're living along with the GENERAL MANAGER for the meantime... did she knew you too is married? if so then, tell the whole truth, it could settle distortions...

Anytime from now on, you too could solely start to look for referral for houses for you to live on peacefully. let the RP move on itself for you to have it. Once you have it, still u have the options on what and where to live with. It is much more favorable for you to live with your husband and work as what you first expect upon your arrival here.

and i agree to Sajjadsa, as long as you're not losing financially, go for it.

Yes my husband is already in Qatar. Been here about 1 year.

That's how I feel. Like I understand if he was my boyfriend and she wants me to keep it a secret but he's my husband.

General Manager said normally in Qatar the housing allowance is only 3000 QR... theres no places here for 3000 QR other then only Rooms in villas.

I may be missing something here- is your husband already in Qatar?

Once your RP is done and you have a marriage certificate to boot, I reckon nothing could stop you and your husband from staying together.

Thanks for your reply. I really want to go to the General Manager and try to get some sort of clarification... but I'm a bit reluctant since I do have to live with her until I get my Residence Permit.

The Qatari is liberal as in he's very easy going I feel for a Qatari like he drinks, he swears etc. If that makes sense.

I am very nervous if I make to much of a fuss they will ask me to go on to a Family Visa, which is impossible for me and my husband does not earn enough.

Sounds fishy to me!, at the risk of having to return to Australia or becoming unemployed best would be to give the General Manager an ultimatum asking for clarifications or go straight to the Qatari and level with the guy and settle the matter.

So long as you dont have anything to lose- go for it.

if he is liberal- (what ever thats supposed to mean, I reckoned if he was conservative- he would be happy to know that you are married)
