No schools in Qatar!!! How strange!!!
They bring all these expats and they have no schools! I just arrived and I have 1st-grade children and they have no space! all expat schools are closed.
They need to provide schools before bringing all these fancy US Universities & Colleges and brag about Education City.
In order to develop and catch up with UAE and Saudi they need schools, roads, services etc and they have the poorest services. Amazing!
What do I do???? Keep children in US and live here alone??? This is ridiculous?
Talk about poor planning!
do baby camels need schooling too DaRuDe?lmao
life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......
the schools in Qatar are not run by the government, they are private and profit making.
It's difficult to envisage someone setting up a private school when there may not be enough students in the initial years.
It's not about poor planning, this country runs on oil, when they need someone here, they need them at that very moment, so if u want to take the job then take it now, or else wait for the next oppertunity. Most of the people come here by their selves and then they get their families here. That's how Qatar works i guess.

There is a serious problem with schools here, I think not only in Qatar but in Gulf in general.
Long waiting lists....
Kismet
have you tried International School of London or the Debakey school from houston? These are 2 new schools that will open next fall. I can't believe they would be full already. Check previous threads for info on these schools.
I agree, two schools a year opening for the next 5 years, but unfortunately, in the educational life of a family or child seven years is far too long to wait. But where is the planning, that is the question?
The problem actually is more on where to go for college. The education city they boast is for the rich (only) and can not be afforded by even the expats in managerial positions. Unless you are a manager earning 50K QAR, then maybe. Anyway, it is really time for the goverment to do serious planning if they want the country to move forward (they are even gunning for the 2016 Olympics)
Gumby, for those of us that love it here, we should just hang in there....Abu Dhabi was the same about 7 years ago and look where they are now.....hang in there..Qatar will be happening before long...

Yes, but there is a tremendous cycle in effect. The population has doubled in the last four years, the Qataris don't have the human resources capacit-or inclination- to staff all the needed schools themselves, so they rely on ex-pat educators, but the packages, inflation and lack of infrastructure make recruiting difficult, and the circle just goes on. Welcome to life in Qatar.
It is my perception though that a bit of a breaking point has been reached. It seems that many who have the flexibility to leave have decided that they've had enough and are pulling out. Anyone have the same impression?
AHAHAHA.... poor planning indeed ><

mmmmmm this is a big problem and there are loads of people in the same boat, most of the people I know had already been on a waiting list before they left their original country, I spose it depends on which school it is though. Have a search, theres loads of stuff on schools here
