Secure school first or go to doha first?

My husband is already in Doha and we will likely follow in a few months' time. From the schools' websites, i understand that they will need to administer some kind of placement tests before term starts in september. However, we are hesitant to go before a place is confirmed.

can anyone advice which is the right approach? Chicken or egg first? We go sit for the test and wait? What if there is no vacancy? Or if we stay where we are, how to do the test?

Confused now. Thanks for all advice.

my girls are 7 and 11 years. what do you think of vacancies for this age?

angiechia...how old is your child? If your child is 3-4 years old, finding a open spot will be challenging. I had to jump through hoops to my 3-year-old into Newton International School. There are simply more kids in Doha than spots.

had to go ona waiting list for his school, after I had queued up at 630 am for a ticket for a chnace to sit the test dnd even though he later passed his "test".

I advise apply anyway.

If you want to receive post, you have to rent a PO box at a Post Office and collect it yourself.

If you're living life on the edge, you've got too much room.

Street addresses aren't really used here. Try Google Earth, and just try entering the names of the schools. Some of them are bound to come up.

But anyway, yes, the schools would be in Doha itself.

thanks for all your help! I will expedite the application process. actually some of the school web sites say application is closed, but i suppose I will still try to apply.

Another thing. I notice the web sites don't provide the address of the schools, some only provide PO box, some nothing. How can I know their location without being there? I presume most of the schools are in Doha itself? or the outskirts? Is there any online map of qatar/doha which gives good details?

thanks

are usually a piece of cake----unless it is a completely different system then what you are used to. For instance the only kids i know who did not pass the test for admittance into American School were

1--kid with learning disability

2- kid in which English was not their first language.

Try to get everything for school set up before hand. If you get on a waiting list now, you will have a good chance to get into school, the longer you wait, the less chance you will have.

the norm is only if there is a vacancy then only they will allow you to sit for the entrance test

life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......
