Compound or flat

I have just been to view a villa in a compound with the works, pool, gym and the list goes on. But the price seems high.

Does anyone rate living in a flat and using a local gym and swimming pool etc or is the high compound price the way to go?

I understand it's my decision, however any thoughts would be handy

Cheers Ben

I have family here, so compound life is great for us. Keep in mind that compound life in Doha is nothing like some of the compounds in Saudi where your whole life- work, shopping, entertainment, school, etc. - takes place inside.

It's more like what we call a "gated community" in the US. It's where neighborhood life happens. Everything else happens outside.

I am sooo thankful for our onsite gym, because if I had to fight Doha traffic to go to the gym.... I'd probably never go!

Some apartment blocks have the same facilities as a compound - swimming pool, gym, cafe etc, but obviously you don't have as much open space.

You could always join a gym, it would be much cheaper...lol...

Thanks guys, I'm single so therefore maybe the compound will not be as suitable. I'm a sports nut so all the facilities seem beneficial at this point, however we have had a pool in the past and the novelty does wear off a bit.

I also don;t want to come here and find myself after 12 months just living within a compound. this was not the idea.

mmmmmmmmmm some more pondering. I like it!!!

Compounds are great for families, but i know a lot of people who live in compounds and after a while the facilties there arent used. its great for kids to paly etc. However the price difference b/w compounds and apartments is pretty steep, if you think about it with the price diference you can use the money to go out and spend lots on entertainment. I guess its a personal choice...

It depends  a lot on your situation.   Are you single or married with a family.   With a family then compound is definitely better hands down due to places for the children to play, likelihood of other friends etc.
