Barwa Housing In Mseimeer
By alhassanlb •
I am one of candidates to live with my family in Barwa Housing project, I knew that the buildings are steel structured, what about the partitions between the appartments? Are they gypsum boards? and what...?
Panceltica bosses flee Qatar over jail fears
12 June 2009
By Tom Bill
The managers of Qatar-based structural steel contractor Panceltica have fled the country over fears they face jail as a legal wrangle with local developer Barwa escalates
It is understood that chief executive David Ball and several key managers decamped to Dubai last month and are consulting lawyers about their next move.
The row relates to a $343m (£210m) 2,000-unit residential scheme built for Barwa in Doha, the Qatari capital. The job remains unfinished after a dispute surfaced last December between Barwa and Panceltica over issues such as contract variations, the settlement of subcontractor deals and potential damages due to delays.
According to a source close to Panceltica, Ball moved to Dubai after being told that under Qatari law he faced prison or having his exit permit withdrawn if the firm wrote cheques that bounced.
The source said: “Panceltica is not getting paid because of the dispute, a situation made worse because Barwa is its only client.”
Panceltica declined to comment.

Barwa is also an investor in Panceltica, which is listed on the alternative investment market (AIM). In January, Barwa upped its stake from 14% to 20% by way of compensation for the delayed scheme, and last month
it emerged Panceltica was considering allowing the developer to take over the whole of its Qatari operation.
In a fresh twist, a second boardroom row broke out on Tuesday when 26% shareholder Strategic Partner, which is backed by Dubai-based private equity firm Ithmar Capital, called for the non-executive directors to be removed and the firm to be de-listed. Its motives are unclear.
The company, whose turnover was forecast to be £152m in 2008 before the row, floated on the AIM in March last year with a market cap of £236.4m, which has since shrunk to £5.32m.
hello Casanova...well well what a small small world...I know of 'Insotherm', our supply came from Malaysia and we we used it in Pakistan when we built hospitals up in the north after the earthquake of 2005. And now you say these panels have 'Sigma River' on the external and then 2 coats of acrylic paint. What is Sigma River.
The early photos I have of the Barwa church project, given me direct from my upline...show the steel framing and the cladding starting on the lower levels.
I can see how people think they are going to be living in porta cabins..I used to work for 'Porta Com' in New Zealand way back in the 80's and they were always called 'chilly bin houses'..that was using polystyrene. Expanded polymer foam is more eco friendly and usable and has a higher thermal rating.
And yes I read last night that Panceltica is heading the project, but I am concerned at what I read on this forum in other threads as to how the workers and locals are disgruntled about the performance of the onsite management. I do hope this does not damage the good name of Steel Framing...as it is the best alternative you have for your neck of the woods...
p/s I would like to know exactly how you are involved in the project...perhaps a descreet email...if that is possible...
ciao for now..
Devinsingapore...Hi...
Actually Panceltica is doing this project here in Qatar and the external is insotherm with Sigma River 3mm on the top and then 2 coats of acrylic external paint instead of clad…
Keep Smiling...

ok guys....let me introduce myself....I am Dave...living in Singapore and soon to be working in your neck of the woods. Now I came across this thread when searching to see how the Barwa project was going. I have been working for the technology supply company that is behind this project since 1997 and in the construction industry since 1993. The system we are using there in Qatar is not new to the rest of the world, and the internal walls are not simply partitioning studs, but full load carrying framed wall panels made out of galvinized steel 1.0mm thick for the lower two floors and 0.75 thick for the upper two floors. The external walls and the hallways are 'clad' in 'fibrous cement board', not simply cementious board, and yes the walls between the units are covered with two layers of gypsum board and external walls to the hallways and neighbours are likely to have rockwool insulation as well. These are not cheap porta cabins, I am surpised as to the high cost of this project, cause normally we are below cost of local projects, it could be that the contractor is covering himself and keeping all others at bay. No matter, you will be getting good housing, and leaks can be fixed. What is needed is good management by people who know what to do.
Dear Jack TUUUUTTT,................. The cementations boards are known as cementations boards only and Cement boards are nothing but I think u are talking about pre-caste panels… The thing u are talking about external of the towers and some Villas as well is known as Cladding… Ya… you guessed right, the wall partitions in the flats are hollow but there is a frame of steel on which the boards are screwed. I’m not talking about Isotherm but "insotherm" (don’t go through the dictionary you will not find this word there), it’s a special product developed by Sigma Paints (PPG Industries, USA)…(Data Sheet available on request) And ya a consecutive mistake in the spellings of maintenance (maintainence) shows your IQ level… Bye Bye Jack TUUUUTTT

Barwa already started calling who selected for their housing program. if you not recevd call. it means you are not selected by them.
how about floor? tiles or carpet (sitting/living and bedrooms)? bathroom and kitchen should be tiles.
Casanova the "cementations boards" called "Cement Board" are usually used for external walls like tiles to protect the building
from Weather Sun/Rain and is maintainence free
(no need for period painting). Today most of the buildings use these because its good and maintainence-free and thus cheaper in the long run say 10yrs. Even new Villas use these instead of External Paints.
The way you say makes one think the walls are just hollow structures stuck
on steel frames and Cement was never used!!!
Are you talking about "insothermal" or "Isothermal" This again refers to the
external walls that you call as "cementations boards".
...That you are down to name calling discussing mundane matters as
Cement boards shows your IQ level....lol
I got a call from them and went there for interview and gave them all the documents listed in their site.
Thanks Casanova!
Jack (i wont say a**, dont worry)...
the insothermal system applied on the walls makes very thick layer of protective coating which shapes as normal structure ... if you think they are making porta cabins then 60% of towers in Qatar are in fact a porta cabin...
FYI... the costing of the buildings is way expensive than normal concrete buildings..
Its a good effort by Barwa, we should appreciate it

So they are building 4 story Portacabins?
Is there is any way to know the status of application submitted online?
Hmnnn ..for external they are using cementations boards and for the partition of the rooms there is a double layered gypsum board screwed on the steel structure…
Do not worry … its soundproof.

Can you explain?
I did not get you!
Thanks!
Cementations boards are for corridors and courtyards and internal is double layered gypsum boards

Wow! How did you know your one of the candidate to live in Barwa housing?
Last year 2 representative of Barwa went in the house and ask us about some information.
So does it mean where included?
Just asking though
