Yo folks,

Hows everyone doing, I hope nice...

Alright, I fancy my chances of buying a nice SLR Digital Camera,

Now I could go to the stores and spend hours and check the varieties out, which I would do but not now...

After having seen many of my QL folks sport lovely lovely cameras, I would like to know a couple of things please:

1) What features do I look for in a SLR Camera...

2) Any suggestions on some good brands (that aint toooo expensive)

can I get some help on this please...

thanks...

Looking forward to some helpful answers and comments pls...

Cheers... And ofcourse Thanks folks...

You can't go wrong with a Canon. The 400D is their current entry level DSLR. I expect It'll be less than QR5000, but there's no point paying any more. Plus you'll need the change for the accessories - decent size/speed memory card, spare battery, bag, lenses, etc, etc.

Salam shopping mall has a good Canon shop.

dude first of all ask urself a few questions...how many times are u actually gonna use the camera? secondly are u planning to go pro? if NOT then i see no reason for you to buy a 5000 bucks worth camera, heck u get decent pics with a normal sony cybershot that should cost u in the range of 2 grand. Pro cams are for pros. :)

lot of people dont worry about the lens factor here.......

and that is what the most important thing

apart

from what you suggested i would recommend to look at the lens mount

factor, focal length, aperture, etc etc and the list goes on.......

hey whats your opinion about leica lenses..

cheers

HI ksarat16,

try either the nikon D40X or the D80, or Canon EOS 400D or the 40D.

As per the lenses, i did not memorize the exact model numbers, but if you are going to be an enthusiast (like myself ;) ), then you will need the ff:

1. Standard 18-55mm lens

2. Fish eye lens (its typically 8-12mm focal length)

3. Telephoto lens, normally reaching 300mm or above

4. UV filter, to protect your lens and sensor from the damaging efects of the sun

5. A good standalone flash

6. A good tripod enough to handle the net weight of the whole thing.

7. Lens Hood to lessen or avoid the glare

Features?.. the 2 brands are all almost identical in terms of features. Shutter speed is one factor, color sensitivity, vibration reduction or image stabilizers.

Nikon lens is good, Canon lenses are more more expensive.

You have to shop around as there are a lot of Camreas on sale in different shops.

You might find a model that has been discontinued which is cheap-

nothing wrong buying a slightly older camera.

For 5k you will find a nice amateur camera that

will have more features than would be able to use for a long time-but trust me if using a camera you will grow with it.

I've had digital cameras since 1995 and at the moment I got a

 Nikon D2Xs

Nikon D40x...that is if you want to be serious about photography

It may cost expensive than the usual 'pocket' cameras, but it's worth it if you have wonderful subject to shoot.

Nikon D40x, Canon 400d and Olympus E410/E510 are all great choices.

(Finepix S9600 is not a DSLR)
