Folks,

I am new to Qatar and was wonedring if there are any takers for urdu poetry / shayeri here in Doha ?

Are there any groups which meet once in a  fortnight for mushaera's ?

I am an amateur myself - and I read transliterated poetry ( urdu written in roman script).

Any one else with similar interest ?

Do let me know

:-)

Friends,

i saw this thread now. In Doha, there are many active groups in urdu poetry. Regular Mushairas , even on weekly basis. We need people to participate in Mushairas, even as listeners too.

Anyone need more info can PM me.

Today, at 2130 There is Mushiara. (Location near Doha Petrol Station, anyone interested... Most welcome)

There are some Urdu Poetry groups who conduct monthly Mushairas. A couple of them are :

1. Bazm-e-urdu Qatar (The oldest urdu poetry group)

2. India Urdu Society (Regularly conducting Mushairas and poetry sessions)

well my dad is visiting from dubai he not only reads urdu poetry but writes well too. we can  share a few, preferably humourous, verses in roman on this thread.

abbu wrote the following over a decade ago about pakistani housewives in the middle east. i will share a few lines ....

hain hamari biwiyan pardes meain araam se

na raha koi taaluq unka ab aalaam se

saas nandon ka tunta jo azaabe jaan tha

chhut gaya un se bhi peechhaa

bach gayeen dushnaam se

bun dabal roti  tandoori aur khubus khatay hain sab

tewari charhti hai roti thopne ke naam se!

this is all i remember right now. if liked will post the rest of it!
