Qatar to announce biggest ever budget

Doha • Qatar is all set to announce the biggest ever budget so far for the fiscal year 2008-09 which begins from April 1. The budgetary estimates are likely to be based on an oil price ranging between $45 and $55, according to Al Sharq.
A salient feature of the budgetary estimates will be the allocation of more money for public projects. Health and education will continue to receive priority as has been the case over the past few years since the country began witnessing huge budgetary surpluses. Infrastructure development projects like electricity and water, sewage, new ports, the new airport and establishment of industrial areas will continue to get increased attention. Ongoing projects are to be completed during the new fiscal year. Mega projects accounted for as much as 66 percent of total public expenditure in the current financial year's budgetary estimates. The Advisory Council is expected to take up the estimates for the next financial year for a threadbare discussion today in the presence of Finance Minister H E Yousef Hussein Kamal. The focus will be on further strengthening the national economy, completing ongoing projects and encouraging foreign investment. |

Apples have gone from QR4 to QR8/kg. Just to be able to eat, I have to buy the "cheap" Fuji apples that give me the runs.
Can teh government share their pot of cash with everyone? Spread the wealth! AS dd likes to say...."it's good to share"!
Hope we get a share of the pie...We who are working at the Health Industry- most workers in Qatar for this matter- have had to bear the spiralling cost of living in Qatar. Latest news in Gulf Times said Qatar has the worst case of inflation at 14%! One doesn't have to be an economist to understand this. Just go and shop for your basic needs and you got your answer! Just hoping for the better for the whole expat community whose toil have indeed put Qatar in the world map!
