Be careful in sending your personal effects with Barwil Shipping

Harry Lwin

I would sincerely inform you that be VERY VERY careful when you use BARWIL SHIPPING QATAR as your clearing agent in Qatar. The best suggestion is NEVER use BARWIL due to the following reasons:

  • They never care about customer satisfaction and only asking for money.
  • They act in unprofessional and unfair manner.
  • They take advantage of their position having control over the cargo clearance and handling, they always take upper hand and never negotiate. They just ask what they want.
  • They are unreasonable and irresponsible.

I really have a terrible experience with that company and costs me a lot of extra money in sending my personal effects to Qatar.

When sending my cargo, my agent hired them for clearance and delivery in Qatar. I have to provide a document to them. But they never contact me. So, when my agent informs me to contact them, I call them. But what that guy told me is that to send the documents to them. I said I am new and don't know how to come to their office. So, I ask the mailing address but the guy still insisted to send the doc by person or driver. I donot have any driver. So, I keep on asking his address and he gave me insufficient address. That address contained just gate no. and street no. When I sent the document, it was returned to me due to insufficient address. It took a week. That caused me delay and BARWIL forced me to pay a lot of storage charges in Qatar Airport. And I explained them that I am not responsible to pay these charges according to my agreement with my local agent. And they did not take any professional action on this, just sit down and doing nothing for 2 weeks. Neither inform to me nor my agent.

So, during these days, the storage charges are piling up. And then, they said again that cost is accumulating and the consignee has to pay. So, we request them to clear the cargo first to avoid theaccumlation of storage charges. But they don't do anything and just asking for money. They said that without paying the storage charges, they will not do anything and let the cost piling up.

And it takes over one month and finally, I paid the cost to stop cost accumulation and to avoid cargo dumbing by authorities.

This is my terrible experience with BARWIL QATAR. Please be very very careful with these people.

If you have any questions, you are welcome

We are surprised to note that such adverse comments are posted to damage our company name and reputation in Qatar. We have gone thru our records for the past one year and confirm that we have not done any clearance & Delivery of Personal effects consignment for a person named MR.HARRY LWIN.

We request Mr.Harry Lwin to advise the AIR WAY B/L NO in which his consignment has arrived Doha,to enable us to investigate further into the comments he had made.

Further Mr.Harry Lwin should have written / contacted us directly to rectify the situation at the onset rather than to post such adverse comments with the aim of tarnishing our reputation in Qatar. As requested we await for the details of the shipment.

From the web site I can clearly see the address:

"All aspects of international freight management

are undertaken from our Doha office situated at Al Rida Building,

C-Ring Road, Hilal West, Doha, Qatar."

They have the most professional team in Qatar, and can arrange shipments from and to anywhere in the world with their network. The manager and his team are dedicated and hard working, and once you get a rate from them, it will never change. They also have good connections to a settling-in service run by a lovely British lady, who will help you to find doctors, dentists, schools, clinics, hospitals, and introduce you to social groups. Definitely worth a call! http://www.qatarlogistics.com

Hi All, I'm indeed surprised to note Harry Lwin's comments about Barwil Qatar. In fact, I have had extremely positive experiences in dealing with that company over a period spanning the last nearly 3 years. And never have they given me any reasons to complain. On nine occasions, I had to move stuff from Thailand to Doha, which included personal effects, household items and expensive decorations. Each time, Barwil Qatar did an excellent job and delivered my stuff without any delays or without any excess charges. The only delay I recall was last summer when most offices in Qatar were closed on account of the Eid Al Fitr festival but that can barely be blamed on the company. Personally, I dont think that a one-off case like Harry mentioned, is sufficient to damage the good reputation of a company. I know of many other local freight forwarders who have done worse jobs but were never mentioned on this website. Why single out Barwil Qatar?

For house item moving, try Agility Qatar (a whole container), for moving boxes try DHL. DHL cost a fraction of 25 to 30% compare to QR cargo (by air). Take about 3 to 4 days - door to door. No paperworks required (in qatar) when i sent 14 boxes (200kilo) from my hometown to qatar. peace of mind.

I have heard less than good things about Barwil as well, but my experience has been that most international shippers leave much to be desired.
