10 Star Hotel planned for Beirut

Apparently it's going to be the world's most expensive and biggest 10-stars hotel, and it's going to cost around $3.6 billion. Supposed to be built facing the new marina in Beirut, and it's officially announced today.

Construction will commence June 2009 and will need  3 years to complete

10 stars, what a load of bollocks. This is pure marketing hype, as is a 7 star hotel. What do you get for your extra 5 two stars?

Any hotel can claim such a boast as there is no worldwide accredation body. Most hotels will only advertise up to 5 stars as that is what they are accredited for.

The problem for a 10 star is that you are putting peoples expectations so high, they may be impossible to meet. What do they want, Champagne flowing from the taps? A Butler to tuck you in a read you goodnight stories?

I worked in hotels for 15 years (only 5*... ahem) and we had a man who wanted to suprise his wife by having a bathtub full of champagne. We dutifully filled his bath with about 4 cases of Moet.

The next day I asked if his wife was impressed. Unfortunately not apparently. She got there, put a toe in and was dissapointed to find out that it was cold....

Literally down the drain goes GBP2500....

Oh to be rich

As if they will build that in Beirut.

They should spend some money fixing up the war torn areas of Beirut instead of building this.

The country needs a stable government and a modernized economy, not a new hotel.

This is just papering over the many cracks in Lebanese society, as usual.

Good morning.

Whoever is investing 3.6 Billion US$ will not dump their money in a risky place. I wondered the same like you.

Given Isreali Politicians penchant for using strikes into Lebanon every election year to show who is toughest when it comes to Isreal's "Security", I think its incredibly gutsy to construct it in Lebanon....and not because it may be targeted directly, but because tourism is affected adversly every few years when Israel bombards.

Still, it is a marvel to behold...thanks for sharing KH!

Stay safe all.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?

Following is a link to the project background.

It was originally planned to be constructed in Dubai. But for cost considerations, it is now decided to be in Beirut:
